The railroads not only were key to opening Oklahoma for settlement, but also enabled pioneers to stay in touch with friends and family they left behind.

Individual pages are being set up on this site for each Railroad in Oklahoma and stations  are being identified and transcribed.  "Soon" even the most obscure ones should be accessible to the our search engine.

Oklahoma The formatted 1915 maps provide easy-to-read color-coded images for individual counties and the original color images are available for each county from the State Gateway.  There are also two larger full-color images.  The Western half covers the Panhandle and all of western Oklahoma extending to the east of Oklahoma City.  The Eastern half covers all of eastern Oklahoma extending to the west of Oklahoma City.   There is enough overlap that the central counties are not split but appear on both images.  Be forewarned that these are extremely large files.

The collection also includes regional maps for the other 47 states:

I have also uploaded a few worksheets to illustrate the process involved in matching towns with railroads.  These are even larger than the images in the above table.  It will take several minutes to download one of these very large images and individual place names are still difficult to read at this definition, but you may find the pattern of railroad stations and bypassed towns useful.  Because these images are so large and of limited interest, I have no plans to include them in routine updates.  Please write to me if you want to know whether a newer worksheet is available.

This site includes many different railroad maps, centered on the Great Lakes region but including lines that extend to all parts of the county.  If you haven't visited it before, you'll probably want to browse through the Index.

The following quick links are to maps that include what is now the state of Oklahoma:

Iron Roads - Making Tracks Across Nebraska

Although the focus is on Nebraska Railroads, this site includes many useful links and maps that show transportation links between Nebraska and early Oklahoma. I suggest starting on his main page.
