Postal Routes in Oklahoma and Indian Territory

Most of the routes that I have identified so far started at a Post Office that was on a railroad, then mail was taken from there on to other Post Offices that didn't themselves have rail service.   Major Post Offices along the Railroad might get a delivery six times a week.  Others got three deliveries.  Still others, only two.  Most of the small offices in outlying areas received only one delivery a week.  In some cases, however, a short route started from an outlying office to connect with service at an existing one.  These were usually once-a-week routes.  The information in this chart was obtained using a black-and-white copy,  so that it was not possible to reliably interpret the original color-coding that indicated the frequency of deliveries. 

Counties, Lands, and Nations are as defined in Territorial times and thus do not necessarily correspond to present-day counties.  Eight of the thirty-two Lands/Tracts, Counties and Nations of The Twin Territories have now been completed.

Gate (mail received from route starting at Engelwood, KS) To Zelmar, Riverside and Beaver.  To Cline, Custer, and Logan.
Coin To Zelmar, connecting with existing service.
Esther To Zelmar, connecting with existing service.
