Program: Civil War in Oklahoma


Presented by: Dr. Brad Agnew is a native Oklahoman whose family came to the Unassigned Land in 1889. After serving a four-year tour in the U.S. Army in Germany and several posts in the United States, he returned to the University of Oklahoma where he earned an M.A. and a Ph.D. in history. He began teaching at Northeastern State University at Tahlequah in 1968, served as director of the library, chair of the geography and history department, and director of the M.A. program in American Studies. His main area of historical research focuses on Oklahoma and its people. He has written several books, many articles and book reviews, and a half dozen slide-tape and television documentaries.

Program: The Oklahoma Oral History Research Program (OOHRP)
The OOHRP was founded in 2007 as part of the Oklahoma State University Library, with the goal of documenting and making accessible the history of Oklahoma and OSU through oral history interviews.

Presented by: Juliana Nykolaiszyn joined the Oklahoma Oral History Research Program at the OSU Library in May 2007. She serves as an interviewer on several oral history projects including the Inductees of the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame, Oklahoma Centennial Farm Families, O-STATE Stories, and the Spotlighting Oklahoma series. In addition to interviewing, Juliana works closely with oral history processing and is involved in making materials available online, primarily through CONTENTdm and other web-based efforts. She enjoys speaking on a variety of topics, including oral history methodology and new media technology. A native of Miami, FL, Juliana received her master's degree in Library and Information Studies and a bachelor's degree in Communication from Florida State University. Prior to entering librarianship, she worked in media relations and marketing along with radio and television production.

MCGS Meetings are free and open to the public and are held at Muskogee Public Library, 6:00 p.m.


Muskogee County Genealogical Society was established in 1983 to provide education and support to those interested in family history research. The society contributes to the Local History and Genealogy collection at the Muskogee Public Library and other genealogy and history related projects and is a member of the Federation of Genealogical Societies.
