Carnegie Cemetery - Caddo Co. Okla.

The Carnegie Cemetery is the largest cemetery in the area. It is located one mile south and one-half mile east of Carnegie. The first recorded burial in the new Carnegie Cemetery was of Sadie Butler, little three-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Butler who met an untimely death on January 23, 1904. She was accidentally shot by a loaded rifle that was left leaning against a bed when for some unknown reason the rifle fell discharging a bullet that instantly killed the child. The funeral was held in the Carnegie schoolhouse and a long procession of 20 carriages and a number of horsemen followed the remains to the new cemetery on the hill south of town. There are a few other tombstones with earlier dates that may have been moved there from another place.

This cemetery is well maintained with a directory of graves.
