S.A. Blank Trial
THE S.A. BLANK TRIAL TO COME ON THIS WEEK
The Submarine October 24, 1913 - transcribed
& contributed by Ron Henson
Interest great - One train load of witnesses for the state and two for the defendant left Boswell for Hugo the scene of legal combat Tuesday and Wednesday.
We do not know whether Mr. Blank is guilty or not, if he is, he should be punished. But the State should deal cautiously with this case and know if possible that they have the right man. The butchery of the Webb family places the criminal on a level with a forest beast and the criminal deserves positive and determined punishment, but when this crime was discovered Geo. Webb was in such a state of excitement and confusion that his own appearance and demeanor condemned him, and most every one at the time thought he was the guilty party and only for the intervention of time and patience, which proved his innocence, he might have paid the penalty himself.
Hence the great state of Oklahoma can not afford to act too hastily, trail its dignity and patience to the end of a mistake, in appeasing public indignation and in avenging the crime. We wish only that the guilty party pay the penalty and pray for the escape of the innocent.
