Fort Towson's Representative Town Builders
Not Boomers, But Wide Awake Citizens
Who are in Line for Progress and Prosperity
The Ft Towson Enterprise August 11, 1905 - transcribed & contributed by Ron Henson

Wright Lumber Co.

The large planer operated at Fort Towson by the Wright Lumber Co., was started running the first of March of this year. The lumber used at this planer is hauled from the company's mill five miles north of town, which has a capacity of 40,000 feet daily.
This company is composed of A.J. Wright, manager of the planer, J.H. Wright, manager of the saw mill and J.N. Leard, all of Hugo.
The Messrs. Wright have been connected with the saw mill business for twenty years, are good business men and have been successful. Their employees here number about 125, and the monthly pay roll amount to a considerable sum, which has added much to the business interests of Fort Towson.
In conversation with Manager Wright at the planer recently, the writer learned that this company has enough timber to keep its mills in steady operation for ten years and that the timber would not be exhausted in this district for twenty years.
The company contemplates building a tram across the stretch of prairie north of Fort Towson to the large timber belt which begins at the foot of Seven Devils mountains.
The main offices of this concern are located at Hugo, where they operate a retail lumber yard. They will also establish a retail lumber business at Boswell.
This is only one of the many industries that will locate at Fort Towson because of her natural advantages, abundance of timber and everlasting streams of water.
