Laying of Courthouse Cornerstone
The Hugo Husonian
Imposing Laying of Corner Stone
Choctaw County's courthouse corner stone put into proper place
Judge Humphrey acted as the Grand master of Great Masonic Laying Ceremonies
With appropriate Masonic ceremonies, after a short march from the Masonic hall on the corner of Duke and Broadway to the court house site, Friday at 2 o'clock p.m. was laid the corner stone of the new $125,000 Choctaw county court house.
Judge T.C. Humphry of this city acted as grand master for the Masonic Order of the state, and the ceremonies of the great order were performed in the presence of a thousand citizens gathern in and around the block where the foundation of the court house is now being laid.
Following the Masonic ceremonies, County Attorney Thos. H. Hardison delivered a short address on behalf of the county commissioners and other county officials, asking that their hands be upheld in the effort to carry on the work of the county.
A.A. McDonald, president of the chamber of commerce, spoke for the chamber in a booster way, advising the citizens to not only uphold the county officials, but to give them their advice, make the suggestions in advance and thus eliminate criticism.
Into the strong box articles were sent down into the corner stone as relics, consisting of copies of The Daily and Weekly Husonian, the Weekly Herald, statements of the four banks, names of the school teachers, the school magazine's first copy, a knife from the Allen-Blakeney store, copies of Masonic papers, and the constitution of the order and history of same in Indian Territory days, and a corner of a Mexican flag which was given to the grandfather of Mrs. Robert Hynes, and various other items.
