TRIBAL REPRESENTATIVE IS S.B. SPRING
HUGO CHOCTAW WILL REPRESENT INDIANS ON APPRAISING BOARD FOR SEGREGATED DISTRICT
Work is to Extend Over a Period of More Than a Year in Segregated District
The Hugo Husonian June 13, 1912 - contributed by
Doris Dykes
S.B. Spring of this city has been appointed tribal representative with the appraisers of the segregated mineral lands, and has gone to Antlers, where he will be with tribal headquarters during the time he acts as such representative. Mr. Spring will remain at Antlers officially during the time required to attend to the duties of his position, which will be approximately one year.
Spring has been one of the prominent Choctaws of this section since arriving at manhood's estate, and has been one of the leading lieutenants for Gov. Victor Locke, who is now master of Choctaw tribal affairs and who plays a prominent part in the republican politics of this section of the state.
The appraisers are at work on the segregated lands, but the length of time required to finish this work can not now be determined, although it is expected that more than a year will elapse before it can be completed. The Choctaw-Chickasaw nations have their tribal representatives who accompany the appraisers and have their voice in matters of appraisement.
