HORRIBLE KILLING AT BOSWELL
HENRY JONES SHOT WHILE HE IS ASLEEP IN BED AT HOME SATURDAY NIGHT
No One Yet Arrested - Officers Have Suspicions of Culprit, However
The Hugo Husonian July 13, 1911 - transcribed by
Ron Henson
Saturday night at 12:30 o’clock while fast asleep in his bed, Henry Jones, of Crowder Prairie, seven miles south of Boswell, was shot to death with a shot gun in the hands of some one who stood not more than a foot or two away while the shot was administered. Henry Jones, well known for years in this country, farmer, storekeeper and stockman, has had many enemies. The night of his death he was lying on a cot near the door leading into his and Mrs. Jones bed room. Mrs. Jones occupied the bed. At twelve thirty Mrs. Jones was awaken by a terrific roar and discovered her husband lying in a pool of his own blood. She states that upon glancing out of the window she saw a man running across the lot and disappear. Calling to her two children she aroused some tenants near at hand and attended to the body of her dead husband.
Sheriff Loftin and County attorney Hardison were notified and accompanied by a deputy caught the early morning train to the scene of the crime. An examination showed that the shot entered the head at the base of the brain and came out below the right eye. Mr. Jones died instantly.
The officers made as careful investigations as possible and though several suspicions have developed no one has yet been arrested. They have all returned home this noon.
At six-thirty Sunday evening the funeral of Jones was held and his body was buried in Boswell cemetery.
