Wilson, John C.
Confederate Veterans Pass Resolution (unknown newspaper 1921)
A meeting of the Old Confederate veterans was held during the past week at which they passed resolutions of respect for John C. Wilson, a member, who died last August. The resolution follows.
John C. Wilson, a member of Tige Cabell Camp No. 1717 of Hugo, was born in Winston County, Mississippi September 4, 1844. Served as a private in Co. H. 46 Mississippi Infantry. At the close of the war he was married to Miss Margaret Smith. To this union there were two sons and one daughter, two of which are living. Joe Wilson and Lonie F. Raney, both now living in Hugo. Their mother having died in Hugo July 26, 1909 at the age of 66 years, 9 months and 22 days.
Mr. Wilson moved to Texas in the year of 1881 and located in Paris, Lamar County. Leaving Lamar County and came to Hugo I.T. in 1904 and was engaged in the blacksmith business up to about 7 years ago when his health began to fail. Up to the time of his death, which occured August 27, 1921, at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 24 days, he was a Master Mason, and had been a member over 40 years, having joined the Newton Lodge No. 57 in the state of Mississippi. At the time of his death he was a life member of Hugo Lodge No. 271.
Having been appointed as a committee to write the above, I, as an honorary member of Tige Cabell Camp, No. 1717 of Hugo and a son of the Confederacy, of which I feel very proud, I wish to say that I have known Mr. Wilson since 1904 and know him to be one of the most congenial men that I have ever met. On our last trip to the convention at Houston, about one year ago, I shall not forget his congeniality on that trip. Like one that wraps drapery on his couch about him lies down to pleasant Dreams.
Peace to His Soul. R.P. Draper, Com.
