SUES LANDLORD FOR SLANDER
Yukon Woman Puts Big Suit Against Landlord of Hugo Hostelry
Alleges that Wilkinson slandered and bemeaned guest without provocation in lobby of hotel

    Mrs. C.H. Black, claiming Yukon as her place of permanent residence, and newspaper and magazine solicitor as her occupation, through her attorneys, Works and Copping, has brought a slander suit against R.W. Wilkinson, proprietor of the Webb Hotel, for the sum of $5,000.
    The plaintiff sets forth in her petition that while she was in Hugo, on or about the 12th day of January 1912, and a guest of the defendant's hotel, that she said defendant did then and there use harsh, obscene and slanderous language to and toward her, and that the same was used in the lobby of the hostelry, all without cause upon the part of the plaintiff, and was the result of no wrongful act upon the part of the plaintiff, either at the time said language was used of prior thereto.
    From the papers filed, it seems that the landlord ordered Mrs. Black from his hotel, using language not calculated to inspire reverence or recall the happy days of babyhood. The woman is a solicitor and claims that at no time had she misconducted herself, and that she was [unreadable] by the proprietor, Mr. Wilkinson, whose language in asking her to vacate her quarters is not printable.
    Later Mr. Wilkinson modified his remarks and the matter was not given wide publicity, but the petition sets forth that the landlord accosted her publicly and gives a list of witnesses who heard the heated and profanely punctuated remarks which the petition alleges as cause of the suit.
    The petition is specific and its alleged counts and citation indicates that a law suit of a rather scandal monger breeding germs is on the tapis.
