This is Samuel Bailey Spring, he was the first Postmaster of Hugo according to National Archives and Records Service, shows Hugo post office was established Nov. 1, 1901 and Mr Spring as postmaster. Mr Needham was appointed Sept. 6, 1902, as Hugo's second Postmaster. (He ran the store for Mr Spring where the postoffice was located.) Mr Spring was married to my greataunt Maud Terry. At the time of his death he was the administrator of the Goodland Indian Orphanage where Maud assisted him. Samuel was the nephew of Joel Spring, his father was Levi Spring. This photo was taken for the Goodland High School annual.
Maud Terry Spring - wife of Samuel Bailey Spring. Maud was the daughter of
Jefferson J. Terry and Phoebe McKeever. They were married 25 Apr 1895 in the
Terry Home. He was 21 years old and she was 16 years old. Maud and Samuel had
one daughter named Ethel. After Bailey's death she and her daughter moved to
Phoenix AZ....This photo was taken from the Goodland High School annual 1929.
J. J. Terry was my greatgrandfather. He was a school teacher, US Marshal, owned a Livery Stable, and worked with Son-in-law Samuel Bailey Spring to sell lots in the Hugo area. Terry Hill was named for him.
