Jesse & Ollie (Cobb) Culberson
contributed by Mike Cobb September 4, 2004

Jess and Ollie were first cousins, their mothers being sisters. His mother was Mary A. Taylor, who married John M. Cuthbertson (notice the spelling) in Fayette Co, AL about 1847. Believe it or not, they had 18 kids, most of who lived. They moved to MS for a number of years, but were in Henderson Co, TN by 1870, where Jess was born.

Mary Taylor's sister was Martha Ellen Taylor born about 1845 in Fayette Co, AL. She married Wilson H. Cobb about 1861 in Fayette. During the War Between The States he served in the 26th Alabama Infantry Regiment. After the war, they moved to Henderson Co, TN.

About 1877, the Cobbs and Cuthbertsons moved to TX. It is said Ollie Belle Cobb was born in the back of the wagon somewhere between Tennessee and Texas. John and Mary Cuthbertson both died in Bowie County, TX, and are buried there in the Old Tiller Cemetery. The Cobbs continued on a virtual tour of Texas for the next 20 years, making a big circle around the whole state like gypsies. By 1898, they were living at Loco, Indian Territory (now Stephens County). While they were there, Jess Culberson caught up to them, and married their daughter Ollie Belle in 1898.

Jess and Ollie Belle lived in Cooke Co, TX for a time, but by 1920 they were in Choctaw Co, OK. They had 10 kids, most of who ended up in California.

Jesse & Ollie are buried in Block 2 of Springs Chapel Cemetery, Hugo, Ok
