LaRue - Satterfield Family
contributed by Stephen Hazelton
Specifically, this a rundown of a family of which many members are buried in Springs Chapel Cemetery- ties a number of people together.
My great-great grandfather was Isaac H. LaRue. He died at the Confederates Home in Ardmore and is buried in the cemetery at Ardmore. His first wife, Virginia P. LaRue, is buried there at Springs Chapel Cemetery. After Virginia died, he remarried 4 times, outliving all but the last of these women. These later wives also are buried in Ardmore in the confederate section of the cemetery.
His and Virginia's daughter was Viola Satterfield, wife of Benjamin Franklin Satterfield, both of whom are buried in Springs Chapel Cemetery.
B. F. and Viola Satterfield's children included:
Roy Satterfield- buried in Mt. Olivet in Hugo with wife Flora.
Ara Satterfield- lived in Oklahoma City and I assume is buried there.
E. Guy Satterfield and wife Bertha, buried in Springs Chapel Cemetery.
Mary Virginia Roy, wife of Isaac Henry Roy, both buried in Springs Chapel Cemetery.
Thula Mitchell, buried in Springs Chapel Cemetery. She had no children.Roy Satterfield's children included Floyd (of Amarillo, TX) and Doug. Doug is buried in the Fort Towson cemetery.
Guy Satterfield's children included (Alvin) Odell, (Guy) Denzel, and E. Leroy. Denzel had no children and is buried in Springs Chapel Cemetery. Leroy (E.L.) and wife Hester are buried in Springs Chapel Cemetery. (Alvin) Odell Satterfield is buried in Springs Chapel Cemetery. His widow, [name edited], currently lives in Antlers, and a daughter, Patricia Satterfield Pyle, recently died in Paris, Tx.
Ara Satterfield had sons [names edited], both of Oklahoma City at last knowledge.
Mary Virginia Roy (always went by "Mrs I. H. Roy") had eight children: Lorine Shipman of Durant, OK (wife of Paul Shipman), Corinne MacFadden of Abilene (wife of Alneer MacFadden, Jr.); Fred Roy, of Corpus Christi, TX; George Roy of Iowa Park, TX; Artie Virginia Hazelton of Clute, TX, (who is buried in Springs Chapel Cemetery, wife of Leaman Hazelton); Sarah Morris of Lubbock, Tx (wife of C. E. Morris); Fern (don't know last name, in Massachusetts); Doris Stockard of Abilene, TX (wife of Leroy Stockard)
Verna LaRue Redwine, wife of J. Henry Redwine, was a granddaughter of Isaac H. Larue. I don't have her father's name handy. Verna ("Vernie") and Henry are both buried in Springs Chapel Cemetery. They had a daughter, [name edited], who lives in the Hugo area.
I imagine all of the LaRue's in Springs Chapel are related to this family.
Many of the above were or are members of the church of Christ, specifically, the Springs Chapel Church of Christ in Hugo.
The cemetery records show a Gene Satterfield and a Tom Satterfield. These may be no relation to the above Satterfields. My dad mentioned there was a different unrelated Satterfield family in the area.
I'm Stephen Hazelton, 4901 Cliffwood, Garland, TX 75043, stephenhazelton@yahoo.com.
County Coordinator's note: where obvious, names of living persons have been edited.
