Bandsmen Win Eight Superiors At SSC Contest
The Hugo Daily News 1964
Eight superior ratings -- the highest
possible -- were won by Hugo high school and junior high musicians in the annual
instrumental music contest on the Southeastern State College campus in Durant
Saturday.
Several others won ratings of excellent -- which is next to
superior -- and five more earned ratings of good.
The Hugo ratings were as follows:
HIGH SCHOOL
Superior -- Mixed clarinet quartet (Martha Parker, Donna
Rodrigue, Andy Hall, Carol Campbell); French horn quartet (Judy Webb, Sue Wells,
Robbie George, Frankie Boone); drum quartet (Hal Ellis, Ann Lynn Eddleman, Paul
Emert, Jimmy Askew); Andy Hall, alto clarinet solo; Sidney Smith, bass solo;
Clarence Robison, bass solo.
Excellent -- Saxaphone quartet (Barbara Miller, Lynn Ann
Akin, Suzanne Hatina, Claud Laey); Gwen Christie, flute solo; Jerry Mathis,
baritone solo.
Good -- Robert Butler, trombone solo; Johnson Cobb, trombone
solo.
JUNIOR HIGH
Superior -- Robbie George, French horn solo; Hal Ellis, snare
drum solo.
Excellent -- Ted Eudy, cornet solo; Douglas Booth, French
horn solo; Paul Emert, snare drum solo.
Good -- Royce Williamson, cornet solo; Bill Castleman, cornet
solo; Jamie Cobb, cornet solo.
