Indicted in Jones Case

INDICTED THEM IN JONES CASE
Mrs. Henry Jones and Sam Stewart are Again Arrested
The Choctaw County Democrat October 19, 1911 – transcribed by Ron Henson

Two of the felony indictments returned by the grand jury were against Mrs. Henry Jones and Sam Stewart charged with the murder of Henry Jones near the town of Boswell last May. Both parties had [unreadable] weeks ago and Stewart was in jail when the grand jury returned the bill, not having been able to give the $2000.00 bond which Justice Schooler had imposed at the time of his arrest.
Mrs. Jones had been able to give bond and was at her home when officers sent by Sheriff Loftin arrived to serve the summons to court.
The murder was one of the worst ever committed in Choctaw county, the man’s head having been blown off by a charge from a shotgun as he lay asleep in his home.
Mrs. Jones stated that she was asleep at the time of the tragedy and was awakened by the noise of the gun. When she struck a light she saw a man running from the house and also saw the dead body of Henry Jones, her husband lying at the door on a comfort.
Later, Mrs. Jones and Stewart were held for an investigation but turned loose. In September Stewart was arrested while at Ardmore, and brought to jail here in Hugo. Mrs. Joes was arrested and gave bond as above stated. The grand jury examined a great many witnesses in that section of the county with the indictments being the result of the investigation.
Mrs. Henry Jones, arrested on an indictment returned by the grand jury for the murder of husband near Boswell, was arranged in the district court at Hugo Monday and gave a ten thousand dollar bond for her appearance.
Mrs. Jones has already been under a $2000.00 bond, given when she had been arrested a few weeks ago, on complaints filed before Justice Schooler, who turned the case over to the district court. – Husonian.
