Mrs. Abbie Brazell Dies Late Wednesday

    Mrs. Abbie K. Brazell died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.A. Garrison, 204 East Lowery at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday.
    Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. M.L. Sullivan in the Wesley Methodist Church at 10 o'clock Friday morning. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery under direction of Senner Funeral home.
    Surviving are six daughters; Mrs. Etta Beaty, Modesto, California; Mrs. J.A. Garrison, Hugo; Mrs. Beulah Kimbrough, Segundo, Colorado; Miss Ethel Brazell, Phoenix, Ariz; Mrs. B.I. Poe, new Castle, Okla.; Mrs. Luella Damron, Burlington, Kansas; one son, F.E. Brazell, Durant; one brother, M.L. Kentch, Wintersburg, Arizona; fifteen grandchildren, among them Roy Harmon Jr., Hugo, son-in-law, Roy Harmon, Hugo.

Tishomingo Man Dies While Visiting Here

    Funeral services for Ben Brown of Tishomingo were set for 3 p.m. today at Goodland with the Rev. R.M. Firebaugh and Rev. E.D. Miller officiating.
    Mr. Brown, a Cherokee Indian, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Frank Hotema at Goodland of pneumonia. He was 38 years old.
    Surviving are three sisters; Mrs. Bell Columbus, Tishomingo, Mrs. S.D. Bateman, Valliant, and Mrs. Hotema.

Mrs. A.C. Dollison Dies Early Today
Death Attributed To Hemorrhage
The Hugo Daily News August 2, 1939 - transcribed by Ron Henson

    Mrs. A.C. Dollison, 36 years old, died at her home, 407 North E street at 9 a.m. today. Death came suddenly as a result of an internal hemorrhage.
    Arrangements for funeral services had not been completed at press time today. The Campbell funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
    Survivors in addition to her husband include one son, Utah Dollison; a sister, Mrs. Mary Stanard of New Mexico; and two brothers, H.G. Morris of New Mexico and Paul Morris of Finley.


C.W. Ervin

Ervin Funeral Rites Set For Saturday

    Funeral services for C.W. Ervin, who died Wednesday, will be conducted in the Shoals school house at 2 p.m. Saturday by the Rev. W.E. White, pastor of the First Baptist church, it was announced today.
    Mr. Ervin, a long time resident of this section, passed away in the Sanitarium of Paris. Snow funeral directors are in charge of arrangements.


Lucy Evett

Mrs. Lucy Evett Dies Early Today
Services Held At Home on "C" Street
The Hugo Daily News September 27, 1939 - transcribed by Ron Henson

    Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy Evett, 68 years old, were scheduled to be held at the home on South "C" street at 4 p.m. today with the Rev. W.E. White, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Mrs. Evett died at her home early this morning.
    Burial was to be in Springs Chapel cemetery under the direction of the Snow Funeral home.
    Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Alice Clouse and Mrs. C.W. Montgomery, both of Hugo; and two sons, T. Bumpas, of Roff, Oklahoma, and Lawrence Evett, of Hugo.
    Bearers are: Dean Weaver, Henry Redwine, Clyde Redwine, J.W. Redwine, Henry LaRue and Marvin Cummings.


J.J. Fromme

J.J. Fromme Dies At Home of Daughter
Funeral Services at 5 p.m. Today

    Julius Joseph Fromme, 89 years old, passed away late Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.M. Stearwalt, 402 East Lowery.
    Funeral services were set for 5 p.m. today at the Coffey-Parker chapel, with the Rev. Norman Alter, Episcopalian minister of Paris, Texas officiating. Burial was to be in Mount Olivet cemetery.
    Active pall bearers are: O.T. Eddleman, Elmer Verner, Raymond Gill, John Sturgess, Will Fitzjohn, and J.W. Claiborne.
    Survivors include a son, J.J. Fromme of Cleveland, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Lillie Malmie of Houston, Texas and Mrs. Stearwalt of Hugo; five grand children and six great grandchildren.
    Mr. Fromme was born in Indianola, Texas April 8, 1850.

Mrs. J.P. Graf Buried Today
Services in Catholic Church

    Funeral services for Mrs. John P. Graf were in the Catholic church here at 10 a.m. today. W.L. Hall, pastor, officiated with Snow funeral home in charge. Burial was in Mount Olivet cemetery.
    Mrs. Graf died Monday at her home on South K street. She was 72 years old.
    Surviving are five daughters; Mrs. Kate Cullen, Denison, Texas; Mrs. J.F. Fitzpatrick, Heavener, Oklahoma; Mrs. Rural Harrall, Denver, Colorado; Mrs. C.J. Kerwin, Great Bend Kansas; and Mrs. O.E. Newman, Hugo; and four sons, John A. Graf, Mena, Arkansas; Charles A. and Andrew E. Graf, Russell, Kansas; Joseph H. Graf, Los Angeles, California.


H.F. Johnson

H.F. Johnson Dies In Messer Community
Services Tuesday At Woodlawn Church

    H.F. Johnson, 67 years old, died at his home in the Messer Communicty at 8:30 a.m., today following a lingering illness.
    Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Malcom McFarland in the Woodlawn church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery under the direction of the Snow Funeral home.
    Survivors in addition to his wife are three daughters; Mrs. Chas. Testerment, Hugo; Mrs. E.E. Johnson, Kyles Ford, Tenn; Mrs. W.M. DeBoard, Ellison, Tenn.; three sons, Luther Johnson of Newport, Tennessee; and George B. Johnson, Hugo; three brothers, A.A. Johnson of Kansas; George H. Johnson, Butler, Mo., and M.E. Johnson, Kyles Ford, Tenn. Two step-sons and one step-daughter also survive.


Dela Mae Small

Funeral Services Held For Soper Woman

    Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at the Holiness church in Soper for Mrs. Dela Mae Small, age 33, who died at her home in Soper Saturday. Rev. M.A. Murphy was in charge of the services. Coffey-Baker funeral home of Hugo, was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in Soper cemetery.
    Pallbearers were John Reynolds, Melvin Bahan, Jess Baker, Everett Warren and Robert Winn, all of Soper. Barbara Winn was organist.
    Survivors include her husband, Kirk Small, four children, Jessie, Rosie Lee, Dorthy Mae and Simanthy Small, all of Soper, her mother, Mrs. Gracie Burris, Soper, one sister, Mrs. Jennie Nelson, Soper, and five brothers, Earl Burris, of California, Jessie Lee, Vernon, Ernest and Paul Burris, all of Soper.


J.N. Taylor

J.N. Taylor Succumbs After Long Illness

    J.N. Taylor, age 81, died at his residence, 112 East Tyler Sunday after a prolonged illness. He was a retired farmer and had lived in Hugo for many years. He was born November 8, 1855 in Texas.
    Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Church of Christ by E.C. McKenzie minister of the church. Interment was in the Springs Chapel cemetery with Snow Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
    Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Roy C. Harris and Mrs. Earl Johnson, both of Hugo; three sons, A.J. Taylor and E.A. Taylor, of Hugo and C.L. Taylor of Broken Bow.
    Pallbearers were R.L. Evans, Pete Know, Rome Taylor, C.W. Dosset, Wallace Hill, Nay Wood, Tom Hicks and J.H. Bright.


Frank Oakes

Frank Oakes Dies Of Heart Ailment
Services At 4 P.M. Today
The Hugo Daily News August 2, 1939 - transcribed by Ron Henson

    Frank Oakes, invalid son of Justice L.W. Oakes, died at his home, 402 East Kirk street, at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday of heart disease. he was 54 years old and had been a semi-invalid all his life.
    Funeral services were to be at the home at 4 p.m. today under the direction of the Rev. W.C. Mathes. Burial was scheduled to be in Mount Olivet cemetery under arrangements of the Snow Funeral home.
    Surviving in addition to this father, are five sisters; Mrs. C.E. Bearden, Mrs. Louis Springs, Mrs. R.H. Tippit, Mrs. W.W. Biard, all of Hugo, and Mrs. J.C. Collins, Ervin Route, Hugo; and one brother, Bill Oakes of Hugo.
    Bearers are Hugh Johnson, Gordon Moore, Roy Johnson, W.H. King, Don V. Caylor and Hearon Wallace.


L.F. Word

Pioneer Fort Towson Man Dies Thursday

    L.F. Word, 87 years old, died at his home in Fort Towson Thursday following a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted in the First Methodist church of Fort Towson by Rev. J.W. Mayne, pastor of the First Methodist church in Hugo at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
    Surviving are two daughters, Mr. [sic] J.H. Wright, Hugo and Mrs. H.H. Lasseter of Fairview, Oregon; and one son, H.S. Word, Wright City.
    Bearers will be James Milling, E.A. Blythe, Kit Carson and Will Breathwit, all of Hugo, and Evans Hobson and Brownie Orton of Fort Towson. Interment will be in Fort Towson cemetery, Snow funeral directors in charge.
