    Funeral services were held Soper Saturday morning for Charles G. Butler, 71 years Old, early settler of Soper who passed away at Amarillo, Tex., Wednesday morning.  Services in charge of Minister E. C. McKenzie of Hugo were held at the Soper Church of Christ of which Mr. Butler was a charter member.
    Born in Lauderdale County Alabama, near Florence, in December 1869, Mr. Butler married Miss Lue Landtroop of Cumby, Texas, in 1898.  They moved to Soper in October 1902, when the town boasted only four houses and a lumber yard.
    Mr. Butler opened a grocery store in partnership with the late J. S. (Pap) Ellis, shortly after moving to Soper.  He sold out to his partner two years later and entered the contracting business, continuing until 1924 when he moved to Amarillo.
    During his many years residence in Choctaw County, Mr. butler made hundreds of friends who were grief stricken at the news of his death.  He is survived by his widow and two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Armstrong of Amarillo, and Mrs. Vesta Bice of Ardmore.
    Interment was made in Soper Cemetery.  Pall bearers were: Lon Allen, C. C. Wilson, Wilson Griggs, Fred Maloney and Hulan Butler.

    Among out-of-town relatives and friends attending the funeral were:  Mrs. Gladys Armstrong daughter, Sue of Amarillo a granddaughter, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Trobaugh of Lubbock, Mrs. maggie Winneford of Cumby, Tex., Mr. and Mrs. Everett Winneford of Cumby, Miss Lena Winneford of Cumby, Ben Ellis of Oklahoma City, Mr. and Mrs. john Thompson of Ardmore, Mrs. A. J. Steen of Oklahoma City, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bice and Children of Ardmore and Mr. and Mrs. Lon Ellis of Hugo.
