Services for Jack Bell, of Idabel, were at 2 p.m. Feb. 4, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church in Idabel. The Rev. Donna Dodson and the Rev. Oscar Wilkie officiated the ceremony. Interment followed at the Denison Cemetery.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Feb 3, 2003 at the Norwood-Coffey Leonard Funeral Home in Idabel.
Jack Bell, formerly of Hugo, died Jan. 31, 2003 in Idabel. He was 65.
Jack Bell was born Sept. 26, 1937 in Hugo. He married Linda McCormick Sept. 29, 1978 in Idabel.
Jack was a certified public accountant, being the first to practice in Idabel. He served as the city of Idabel’s treasurer from 1977-1992. Jack mounted a campaign to become District 5 state senator in 1992, was elected, and served through the end of 1996. He was very active in trying to better the lives of children and youth. He enjoyed making hickory whistles and searching for unique stones. Jack was a member of the Assemblies of God, affiliated with the First United Methodist Church, and had lived in Idabel since 1969, moving from Hugo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ottis Martin Bell; and his step-father, Roy Burnett.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Bell of Idabel; his mother, Oletta (White) Bell Burnett of Hugo; one son and daughter-in-law, Patrick J. and Rebecca McCracken of Washington D.C.; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Melissa and Doron Grill of Vancouver, British Columbia, Wendy J. and Roger Akeman of Tulsa, Jaqua Bell of Tulsa and Kerri J. Bell of Arlington, Texas. three brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth G. and Anne Bell of Belleville, Ark., Wayne C. and Debbie Bell of Murray, Ky., Stan and Robbie Burnett of San Diego, Calif.; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda Sue and Nathan Allen of Brownwood, Texas; four grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund to benefit the children of youth of McCurtain County has been set up at the Idabel National Bank.
The Norwood-Coffey-Leonard Funeral Home in Idabel handled the funeral arrangements.
