Dr. J.S. Neely Died Last Week

Dr. J.S. Neely, one of the best known men in the city, died last Thursday night after a lingering illness. He had been ill for many months and about a month ago suffered an attack of paralysis, which hastened his demise.
Dr. Neely was a native of Tennessee, being born at Shelbyville in 1834 and was consequently 77 years of age. He graduated in medicine at an early age and practiced the profession more than fifty years, having retired a few years ago. He moved to Hugo about five years ago. He was an old confederate soldier, entered the was as a lieutenant.
The funeral services were held at the family residence, the Hugo Furniture company directing the funeral. The body was prepared and shipped to Middleton, Tenn., for burial. Dr. Thorton, of the First Methodist church, conducting the last sad rites. W.L. Orme accompanied the family to the old home, where the remains were buried.
