Dr. A.L. "Doc" Fountain

Funeral services for Dr. A.L. "Doc" Fountain of Hugo were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at First Baptist Church in Hugo with Reverend Doug McClure officiating, assisted by Reverend Dick McClure. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo.
Dr. Fountain died Friday, January 7, 2005, in Hugo. He was 83.
A.L. Fountain was born on June 15, 1921 in Kirksville, Mo. the son of Thomas Frederick and Eva (Motter) Fountain. He married Willa (Sug) Houser in Hugo on December 23, 1946. He attended Northeast Missouri State university and Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine; he then became Dr. A.L. Fountain better known as "Doc" He practiced medicine in Hugo for 42 years. Doc was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hugo. He served on the board of directors for the Hugo Horse and Rodeo Club and Choctaw Memorial Hospital. He also served as medical director for the Choctaw County Health Department. Doc served on numerous committees with the State of Osteopathic Associations. He was selected as State Osteopathic Doctor of The Year in 1985.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mildrid and a brother Melvin Fountain. He is survived by his wife Sug Fountain, two daughters Karen Elizondo and husband Terry, Sherre Wolfe and husband Jamie, both of Hugo; a brother Dr. William H. Fountain and wife Shirley of Miami, Fla..; four grandchildren, Kristin Elizondo Lemmons and husband Tim, and Hilary Elizondo both of Hugo, Lindsey Wolfe Thomas and husband Dusty of Powderly, Texas, and Alison Wolfe of Durant; and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of lifelong friends. In lieu of flowers family request donations be made to the charity of your choice.
The family received friends Tuesday, January 11, 2005, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
