Jimmy Allen Is Killed in Car Wreck Sunday
Funeral services for Jimmy Allen, 44 year-old Hugo showman, who resided at 607 East Brown street, tentatively are set for Wednesday, January 11, at 2:30 p.m., at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Littleton Fowler officiating and interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Coffey Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements and pallbearers will be selected from the Showman’s Club.
Mr. Allen was badly injured on Sunday morning at 1:30 o’clock in an automobile passenger car and oil truck collision near Kingsville, Texas. He was enroute to Harlington, Texas, when his car crashed into the rear of the passenger car which was being pushed by an oil truck. The Allen car was badly damaged. Mr. Allen died about an hour after the accident occurred in a Kingsville Hospital.
Mr. Allen was born on April 4, 1905, in Atlanta, Ga. He got his start as a carnival concession man in his father’s carnival in Atlanta, Ga., and had been associated with several shows, including the Cavalvade [sic] of Amusements, Victory United, Capell Brothers and Casey Smith Shows. At the time of his death, he was traveling to Harlington, Texas, in order to participate in the Victory Exposition Show.
Mr. Allen had lived with his family in Hugo for the past four and one-half years.
Survivors are his wife, Onida; five children, Jimmy, jr., Ronald, Phyllis, David and Gwendolyn, all of Hugo; his mother Mrs. Rosa Allen, Hot Springs, Ark.; five brothers, Cecil, D.V., and Billy, Hot Springs; Roy, Shreveport, and Charley, Florida; three sisters, Mrs. Johnnie Marlin, Alexandria, La., and Mrs. George Hall, Hot Springs, Ark.
The News joins with his many friends in expressing condolence to the relatives of the deceased.
