David Aaron “Fuzzie” Barris

Funeral services for David Aaron “Fuzzie” Barris of Antlers were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2005 at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel in Atoka with Rev. Walter Truitt officiating, assisted by Ray Stanphill. Interment was in Ward’s Chapel Cemetery.

Barris died Sunday, July 24, 2005 at Paris Regional Hospital. He was 92.He was born July 8, 1913 to Ludlow and Bertha Maude Della (Sissom) Barris at Cardwell, Mo. He attended Plainview School in Johnston County, Okla. He married Emma Alberta Mae Baughman on March 10, 1936 at Coalgate. She preceded him in death on January 11, 1972. He later married Inas Waneta (Steel) Shields on Nov. 14, 1990 in Antlers. He resided in Antlers for the past 15 years and was a former longtime resident of Atoka County. Aaron worked as a construction worker and was also a longtime farmer and rancher. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Hugo and a former longtime member of the Wards Chapel Baptist Church in Atoka. He was a longtime member of the Atoka Oddfellows. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul Barris; sisters, Lottie Jones, Iva Stanphill and Daisy Barris.Survivors: Wife, Inas of the home in Antlers; two daughters, Cletus Reeves of Lincoln, Ark., and Sheryl Arnold of Port Aransas, Texas; two sons, Tommy D. Barris of Atoka and David E. Barris of Plano, Texas; step-children, Nedra Carole Sears of Ada and Paul Anthony Shields of Hobart; brothers, Ned Barris of Silver City, N.M. and Herbert Barris of Pahrump, Nev.; sisters, Mary Lou Griswald of Casper, Wyo., Syble White of Silver City, N.M., Addie Truitt of Pottsboro, Texas, Edith McKaskle of Stillwell, Goldie Cherry of Silver City, N.M., Ozie Cantrell of Sherman, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends.

Family night was held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel in Atoka.
