James H. Mathis Funeral Services To Be Held Today
Funeral services for James H. Mathis of Fort Towson will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Swink cemetery with Rev. Hughes officiating. Coffey Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
Mr. Mathis passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R.L. Landingham, Fort Towson, on January 12, after a lengthy period of illness.
He was born on May 6, 1882, thus being 67 years old at the time of his death. His birthplace was Washington County, Arkansas. He was a retired farmer and had lived in the Fort Towson community for the past twelve years.
Mr. Mathis is survived by his wife, who resides in Athens, Texas. And the following children: Mrs. Pearl Landingham, Fort Towson; Mrs. Martha Murphruee, Athens, Texas; Mrs. Evelyn Hugghins, La Mesa, Texas; Mrs. Ruby Jo Cure, Athens, Tex.; Harvey Mathis, Athens, Tex. In addition, he is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Maggie Spurlock, San Pedro, Calif.; John Mathis, Caney, Okla.; Alfred Mathis, Monahans, Tex.; and R.E.L. Mathis, Fort Towson, along with thirteen grand children and four great-grand children.
The News joins with his many friends in expressing condolence to the relatives of the deceased.
