BEAUCHAMP, UDELL “BEAU”

BORN: MARCH 28, 1922 DIED: OCTOBER 5, 2003

Funeral for Udell "Beau" Beauchamp, 81, Lawton, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Saville, Pastor Emeritus, Westminster Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Mr. Beauchamp died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at his home.

Burial with Navy honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under direction of Becker Funeral Home.

He was born March 28, 1922, in Fort Towson to Price and Essie Beauchamp.

He married Mary Lou McDonald on Feb. 14, 1947, in Ludington, Mich. They moved to Broken Bow that year. He completed his high school education after serving in the Navy during World War II as an LST Helmsman. They later moved to Lawton, and he received his bachelor of arts degree in industrial arts from Cameron A&M. He was a carpenter for several years in the Lawton area before beginning his career as a technical illustrator at the Fort Sill Printing Plant. He worked there as the head of the drafting department for 31 years until his retirement on May 31, 1986. He was a coach and later a baseball umpire and football referee. He refereed high school football in Southwest Oklahoma. He was part of the first group to be inducted into the Southwest Oklahoma Officials Association Hall of Fame. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law: James and Jonnie Beauchamp, Destin, Fla.; Richard and Nancy Beauchamp, Edmond; Randy and Kay Beauchamp, Broken Arrow; and Steve and Charlotte Beauchamp, Lawton; a daughter, Debby Rutherford, Merced, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Dorothy Thorne, Lawton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
