Melvin Preston Hamilton, 78, of Fort Towson, Okla., died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps, Ark. Burial follows in Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps, Ark.

The family receives friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel.

He was born May 27, 1926, in McKamie, Ark. He was a farmer.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Pam Hamilton of Texarkana and John and Pam Hamilton of Sarepta, La.; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jerry Jones of Texarkana; one brother, Billy Ray Hamilton of Bodcaw, Ark.; two sisters, Ruth Montgomery of Idabel, Okla. and Molly Phillips of Stamps; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
