FIREARM ACCIDENT TAKES LIFE OF SAWYER WOMAN

A Sawyer woman fell victim to an accidental shooting Wednesday, Nov. 4. According to the Choctaw County Sheriff’s Department, Ida May Jackson, 45, was preparing to leave her establishment, Ida’s Place Café in Sawyer,
when the accident occurred.Reports indicate that at approximately 4:15 p.m., Mr. Jackson went outside while his wife counted money in the register. A few minutes later Mr. Jackson heard a gunshot. He went back into the store and found Mrs. Jackson and the gun on the floor.
According to reports, Mrs. Jackson keeps a .357 magnum in a towel under the register for protection.
Apparently, Mrs. Jackson dropped the gun causing it to discharge. The bullet entered upward through her lower abdomen and exited her shoulder area.
Mr. Jackson stated that nobody else was in the store when the accident occurred.
Mrs. Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene from massive internal injuries.

Funeral services for Ida May Jackson, 45, of Sawyer, will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the Ft. Towson Baptist Church.
Family visitation will be Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton- Mills & Coffey Chapel.
Mrs. Jackson passed away Nov. 4, 1997 at Ida’s Place Café in Sawyer.
She was the owner/operator of Ida’s Place Café and a member of the Baptist Church.
Ida May Jackson was born Feb. 28, 1952, in Ft. Towson, to Ervin Signal and Elsie Juanita Ridenour Priddy. She married Houston Jackson in Sawyer. Ida graduated from Ft. Towson High School in 1970.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Houston; one son – Gerald Wayne Hider of Boswell; seven brothers – John, Jimmie, James, Jesse, Jean, and Jeffery Priddy all of Ft. Towson, and Josh Priddy of Hugo; two sisters – Ivalene Morris of Hugo and Inell Nation of Ft. Towson; and two step grandchildren.
Interment and burial will follow in the Box Springs Cemetery in Sawyer under the direction of Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home in Hugo.
