MASSENGALE, ROBERT EDWARD LEE

Robert Edward Lee Massengale, 92, of Bella Vista died September 16, 2003 at Northwest Medical Center of Benton County in Bentonville.

He was born Feb. 23, 1911, in Mayhew, Oklahoma, to Jink Lee and Minerva Ann Duncan Massengale. He was a graduate of Boswell High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from Oklahoma State University. He He taught Vocational Agriculture for four years in Grant, Oklahoma, and for 30 years in Hugo, Oklahoma. He retired in 1973 and moved to Bella Vista from Hugo. He was a Rotarian for 50 years and served as its president for one year. He was a member of the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association, and was a member and charter elder of the Bella Vista Church of Christ for 20 years.

He married Helen Lyon on July 20, 1941.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Martha Kay Massengale.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Massengale of Bella Vista; one son, Robert Robert Massengale and wife, Myrna of Fort Myers, Fla.; one daughter, Lea Ann Sims of Texarkana, Texas; one sister, Nathalia Elmquist of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Bella Vista Church of Christ. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, Oklahoma.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church.

Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home.
