RICHARDSON, SOLOMON

Transcribed by Bessie Meredith

BORN: DECEMBER 2, 1831
DIED: MARCH 4, 1916

OBITUARY OF SOLOMON RICHARDSON – MENA STAR - MARCH 1916
Memorial of Uncle Solomon Richardson

It is with deep personal as well as fraternal feeling that we announce the death of our beloved brother, Sol Richardson. He was born December 2, 1831, in Lauderdale County, Alabama, moved to Mississippi with his father in childhood and was married to Miss Sarah Tacket in 1853

To this union eight children were born, of whom five are living, with forty-three grandchildren and fifty-three great-grand children. The five living are: Mrs. J.K. Floyd of Oklahoma; Mrs. A.M. Woodell of Cove, Arkansas; Mr. W. I. Richardson of Hatfield, Ark; Mr. J.M. Richardson of Fort Towson, Oklahoma; and Mrs. W. H. Littlepage of Hatfield, Arkansas.

He joined the Masonic lodge in 1863. He came to Polk County January 1, 1869, and was a charter member of Mountain Meadow lodge No. 218.

He had been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church over fifty years.

At the time of his death he was a member of the Hatfield church.

He died March 4, 1916, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. H. Littlepage, and was buried by the Masonic lodge in the Hatfield cemetery in the presence of a host of relatives and friends who mourn his loss. Uncle Sol, as he was called, was loved and respected by all who knew him.

When we come to speak of the good qualities of this noble character, our words fail to do him justice. But we are glad to point to him as an example of an upright life and a true Christian gentleman.

Uncle Sol was 84 years, 3 months and two days old. He enjoyed the wages of a Master Mason.

“We shall greatly miss him here.
But these partings in sorrow
Make it possible to meet
In that glad tomorrow.”
“Death’s but a path that must be trod,
If man would ever pass to God.”

Resolved: That a copy of this memorial be spread upon the pages of our minute book, a copy be published in the Masonic Trowel, a copy be published in the Mena Star, and a copy be sent to each of his children.

Fraternally,
T.P. Davis,
W.J. Davis,
L.F. Wheelis, Committee
