SELF, FRANK JAMES

Frank James Self, 80, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at his home.

Born May 11, 1922, in Hugo, Okla., he lived in Rancho Bernardo for seven years and in Poway for 10 years prior.

He was a school administrator for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Phoenix and Riverside. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a major in 1968. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Poway, and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Haskell Alumni Club in Phoenix. He received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Oklahoma A&M College.

Mr. Self is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dolores W. Self; daughters and sons-in-law Karen and Randy Beakley of Missouri City, Texas, and Sarah and Richard Marcus of Tucson, Ariz.; son and daughter-in-law Jon and Linda Self of Poway; sisters Marie Walker of Hoyt, Okla., and Jean Dowling of Foreman, Ariz.; brothers Barney Self and Bill Self, both of Foreman, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for noon Saturday, March 29, at First Baptist Church, 13604 Midland Road in Poway.

Interment will take place at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway.
