The Boswell News – December 22, 1932
Transcribed by Ron Henson for OKCHOCTA
Herman Goekin, aged 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Goekin, was killed by the accidental discharge of a shot gun in his own hands while out hunting last Friday about noon. The accident occurred near his home three miles north of Soper.
He was hunting with his father and Raymond Hughes and it is supposed he stuck the stock of his gun into some brush to scare out an owl. The gun discharged, the load striking him in the stomach. He died by the time his father reached his side.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. R.L. Hunnicutt, pastor. Interment was in the Soper cemetery.
Herman Edward Goekin was born at Edmand, Kansas, on January 27, 1911, and moved to Soper with his parents in 1913. he was married to Miss Ivol Pate March 14, 1930. Besides his parents and wife he is survived by one child about a year old. Also a brother and two sisters.
The entire community was grieved and shocked to hear of the terrible accident and sympathize with the family in their sorrow. – The Soper Democrat.
