William A. "Bill" Baldwin

    Funeral services for William A. "Bill" Baldwin, 76, of Hugo, are pending with Mt. Olive Funeral Home of Hugo. Bill Baldwin, owner and operator of Baldwin's Office Supply in downtown Hugo, died Monday evening in Paris, Texas, after a long illness.

    Funeral services for William A. "Bill" Baldwin of Hugo were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2005, at First Baptist Church of Hugo with Rev. Doug McClure and Rev. Dick McClure officiating. Interment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
    Bill Baldwin was born October 15, 1928 in Ti Valley, Oklahoma, the son of Jess and Mae (Johnson) Baldwin. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class, toward the end of World War II. He married Ruth Ann Cook on November 9, 1951 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. They moved to Hugo from McAlester 46 years ago opening Baldwin's Office Supply Store downtown in 1959. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for 5 years. He was a member of the Hugo Jaycees for 3 years and the Hugo Rotary Club for 2 years. Bill served as Commissioner of the Little League Baseball for 3 years and was a news columnist for Choctaw County Times for 4 years. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Rock Creek Golf Course. In addition, he enjoyed writing poetry for over 50 years, was a member of the National Poetry Society, and was published in the American Poet Society in 1999. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Faye Walker and Thelma Murrin.
    Surviving Relatives: Wife: Ruth Baldwin of the home, two Sons: Marty Baldwin of Hugo, Jimmy Baldwin of Hugo, Daughter and Son-in-law: Donna and David Holcombe of Eddy, Texas, two sisters: Virginia Kerr of Mead, Dorothy Wingo of California, four grandchildren: Jessica and Brian Anderson of Eddy, Texas, Mandy and Brandon Knowles of Holly Creek, Okla., Amber Baldwin and Sarah Baldwin both of Hugo, six great-grandchildren including: Bailey Anderson of Belton, Texas, Corbin and Kinley Ann Urbanovsky of Eddy, Texas, Cassidy, Megan, and Treyton Knowles of Holly Creek, Okla.
