Funeral services for J.J. Terry, were held at the First Presbyterian
church Monday afternoon at 3:30, with Reverend Ernest Hicks, pastor of
the First Methodist church and Dr. R.M. Firebaugh, pastor of the
Goodland Presbyterian church officiating.
Funeral services were under the direction of
the Snow Funeral home and interment was made in the Spring Chappel
Cemetery.
Active pall bearers were Frank Houser, J.H.
Bright, R.S. Vickery, C. Milam, J.S. Persons and Henry Redwine.
Honorary pall bearers: Judge T.W. Hunter, R.J.
Howse, Judge T.C. Humphry, Will Houser, J.A. Rodgers, R.M. Pyle and D.C.
Patterson.
Jefferson J. Terry was born in Missouri,
January 15, 1847. He came to the Indian Territory in 1874 and settled at
Old Goodland and has resided in this community since that time.
He served with distinction as a soldier in the
Confederate army and at one time was a deputy United States marshall in
the Indian Territory.
Survivors are: Mrs. William Bland, and Mrs.
Maude Taylor, Phoenix, Arizona; Mrs. N.B. McPherson, and Joe J. Terry of
Little Rock, Ark, and Mrs. M.C. Cunningham, Palestine, Texas, and L.D.
Terry of Hugo. A brother and sister also survive J.H. Terry and Mrs. J.H.
Rice of Huntsville, Missouri. |
