James Adam Methvin

    Graveside services for James Adam Methvin of Hugo were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2004, in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Rev. Mutt Wallace officiating.
    Mr. Methvin died Monday, May 3, 2004, in Hugo. He was 69.
    James A. Methvin was born January 14, 1925 in Louisiana, the son of Cecil & Clemie (Booker) Methvin. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He had lived in Hugo for the past 15 years, moving up from Florida. He worked as a printer, ran a flea market and owned a monument shop for many years.
    Surviving relatives: daughter, Rhonda Sue of Louisiana; son, Ricky Methvin of Florida; brothers, Darrell Methvin of Beaumont, Texas, Duane Methvin of Roam, Texas, and Earl Methvin of Messer; two grandchildren.
    Services under the direction of Mt. Olive Funeral Home of Hugo.

Tisha May White

    Funeral services for Tisha May White of Crowder were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Don Parr officiating. Interment was in Crowder Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Her uncles served as pallbearers.
    Mrs. White died Thursday, April 29, 2004, in Houston, Texas. She was 29.
    Tisha was born April 10, 1975 in Paris, Texas, to Louis & Janet Daniel White. She attended school in Crowder and later attended Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton. Tisha was a homemaker and a member of the Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors: Her children, Emily Dawn McDaniel, Casey Allen McDaniel, Christian Tyler McDaniel, Nicholas Chase McDaniel, and Allysa Nichole McDaniel, all of the home; her mother, Janet Daniel of Crowder; three sisters, Janet Marie Ensey of Crowder, Christa Kay Ensey of Sherman, Texas, and Kaitlyn Marie Daniel of Crowder; two brothers, Cameron Wayne Daniel of Crowder and Joseph Randall Daniel of Crowder; grandmother, Hattie Harmon of Hugo; uncles & aunts, Barbara & Rex Norman of Dallas, Melissa & Joe Daniel of Tulsa, Kenny & Rosie Daniel of Hugo, Clint & Karen Ridgway of Waxahachie, Texas, Gary Daniel of Hugo, and Randy & Mary Daniel of Porum, Okla.; numerous cousins.
    Tisha was preceded in death by her father, Louis White, two grandfathers, Joe Daniel and Jim Harmon, and a grandmother, Ethel White.
    Services under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service, 110 S. 3rd St., McAlester.

Billy Joe Totty, Sr.

    Funeral services for Billy Joe Totty, Sr., of Hugo, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Clayton Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Witt and Rev. Jerry Totty officiating. Interment was in Grant Cemetery.
    Mr. Totty died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, in Hugo. He was 56.
    Billy Joe Totty, Sr., was born July 8, 1947 in Clarksville, Texas, the son of Charles & Auddie (Hensley) Totty. He worked as a truck driver for 34 years. He married Shelly Gail on March 8, 1992 in Texarkana, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his father: Charles Totty on July 1, 1975.
    Surviving relatives: Wife, Shelly Totty of the home; children, Billy Joe Totty III of the home, Charles Curtis Totty of the home, B.J. Totty Jr., Roy Totty, Daniel Pete Bear, Robert Totty, Serina Lewis, Alanaque Rodriquez, and Samantha Totty, all of Paris, Texas; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother, Addie Totty of Hugo; brother and sister-in-law, Charles & Cindy Totty of Texas City, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Judy & Wiley Laney of Idabel; sister, Michella Tippitt of Taff, Okla.; sister and brother-in-law, Donnita & James Stamper of Hewitt, Okla.; aunts, Lorene Bush and Nella Jane Meagson, both of Clarksville, Texas, Louise & E.L. Parker of Lone Oak, Okla.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

David Short

    Funeral services for David Short of Broken Bow were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Spirit Rock Church in Millerton with Bro. Troy Ruffin officiating. Interment was in Valliant Cemetery.
    Mr. Short died May 4, 2004, at his home. He was 56. He worked in construction as a rigger, was an Army veteran and a member of Spirit Rock Church.
    Mr. Short was born April 10, 1948 in Valliant, the son of Earnest and Dorothy (Upton) Short. He married Laura (Taylor) on November 21, 1994. He lived most of his life in McCurtain County. His parents and one brother, Preston Short, preceded him in death.
    Surviving relatives: His wife Laura Short of the home; two daughters, Tonya Short of Millerton and Deena Short of Antlers; two brothers, Eddie Short of Valliant and William Short of Granite; two sisters, Darlene Hamrick of Valliant and Faye Lanier of Swink.
    Services under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home - Valliant.

Melvin R. Ashley

    Funeral services for Melvin R. Ashley of Sawyer were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2004, in Mt. Olive Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bennie Hammons officiating. Interment was in Sawyer Cemetery.
    Mr. Ashley died Friday, May 7, 2004, at his residence in Sawyer. He was 84.
    Melvin R. Ashley was born July 9, 1919 in Norman, the son of C.J. & Lillie (Eppler) Ashley. He worked as a truck driver for Southwestern Oil Field, Gifford & Hill, and Parker Brothers. He had lived in this area for the past 22 years, moving up from Houston, Texas. He married Norma F. Nelson on August 26, 1966 in Conroe, Texas. He was preceded in death by one sister: Ossie Box.
    Surviving relatives: Wife, Norma Ashley of the home; three daughters, Jo Dean Ashley of California, Joyce Dale Galloway of Rodgers, Texas, and Caroline Ashley of Houston; son, Buddy Ashley of Houston; stepson, Gordon Draper of Hugo; stepdaughters, JoAnn Honeycutt of Hugo and Jimmie Dean Dickerson of Houston; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren.
    Services under the direction of Mt. Olive Funeral Home Chapel.

Ruth Roberts Kempton

    Funeral services for Ruth Roberts Kempton of Bonham, Texas, formerly of Ft. Towson, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at United Methodist Church in Ft. Towson with Rev. Oscar Wilkie officiating. Interment was in Ft. Towson Cemetery.
    Mrs. Kempton died Thursday, May 6, 2004, in Bonham. She was 88.
    Ruth was born March 11, 1916 in Ft. Towson to Ernest E. and Gertrude (Cosby) Roberts. She married Leonard H. Kempton in 1948 and he preceded her in death. Ruth was assistant superintendent of schools in Kansas City, Mo., a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the American Legion and a major in the U.S. Marine Corps. Her parents also preceded her in death.
    Ruth is survived by two sisters, Helen Richardson of Rochester, Minn., and Ethel E. Northcutt of Sun City, Ariz.; one nephew and two great-nephews.
    Services under the direction of Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home of Hugo.

Byron L. Wilhite

    Funeral services for Byron L. Wilhite, of Durant, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church, Durant, with Reverend Boyce Moon and Reverend Ross Kirven officiating. Private interment was at Oakland Cemetery, Oakland, Okla. 
    Mr. Wilhite passed away May 7, 2004 at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas after a brief illness. He was 55. He was a graduate of Madill High School and Oklahoma City University Law School and a long time resident of Durant. He was City Judge for Durant and Hugo. He also was a private practice attorney. He was a member of the Bryan County and Oklahoma Bar Association. He loved going to movies, riding his Harley with his grandchildren, traveling, spending time with his many friends, and playing with his puppy Bubbles. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred, and father Jack Wilhite, and one brother, Clay Wilhite. 
    He is survived by wife Michelle Wilhite of Sherman, Texas; his daughters, Kerry Wilhite, of The Colony, Texas, Tammy Parrish, of Madill, former wife and best friend Patty Wilhite of Kingston, and one brother, Frank Wilhite, Madill; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild; three nieces and nephews.

Fannie McDaniel

    Funeral services for Fannie McDaniel, 85, of Hugo, are pending with Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home. Mrs. McDaniel died Monday, May 10, 2004, in Hugo.

Wayne L. Snow

    Funeral services for Wayne L. Snow of Boswell will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Boswell Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Dale Watkins officiating. Interment will follow in Boswell Cemetery.
    Mr. Snow died Monday, May 10, 2004, at Oak Ridge Manor Nursing Home in Durant. He was 89.
    Mr. Snow was born Tuesday, November 10, 1914 in Boswell, to O.E. and Lena (Westbrook) Snow. He lived most of his life in Boswell and Bryan County. He married Ruth Loucille Whisenant on May 14, 1932 in Boswell. His occupation was construction and he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Boswell. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Loucille Snow, two sisters, infant son Kenneth Snow, son Don Snow in 1996 and three great-granddaughters.
    Survivors: daughter, Shirley Percell of Bennington; son, Willard Snow of Andrews, Texas; 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
    Services under the direction of Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home.
