Ruth Ann Taylor

      Graveside services for Ruth Ann Taylor of Durant, formerly of Hugo, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Grant Cemetery with Rev. Jack Ball officiating, assisted by Sister Olene Adams.

      Mrs. Taylor died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, in Durant. She  was 69.

Ruth was born June 15, 1934, in Hugo, to Elwood and Mary Ruth (Vaughan) Allen. She married Bufford Ray Taylor on March 6, 1950, in Hugo. She had lived in Oklahoma all of her life and was a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband Bufford Taylor; two sons, Allen Taylor and Gary Taylor.

      Ruth is survived by five sons, James Taylor of Sherman, Texas, David Taylor of Walley, Texas, Darrel Taylor of Durant, Paul Taylor of Hugo, and Don Taylor of Eagletown; six daughters, Martha Smith and Linda Burchfield, both of Hugo, Brenda Taylor, Helen Boling and Janet Sheffield, all of Durant, and Patricia Farris of Kenefic; her mother, Mary Allen of Hugo; four brothers, Glenn Allen, Johnny Allen, Randy Allen and Danny Allen, all of Hugo; one sister, Martha Buchanan of Hugo; 24 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Edith Dozier

      Funeral services for Edith Dozier of Hugo were held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2004, at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Stanley Pope officiating. Interment was in Fort Towson Cemetery in Fort Towson.

      Mrs. Dozier died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in Hugo. She was 93.

Edith was born July 6, 1910, in Bailey, Texas, to Andrew Martin and Mary Drusilla (Jones) King. She married Thomas Ralph Dozier on December 23, 1931, in Madill. She was a homemaker and had lived in Choctaw County all of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Thomas R. Dozier on December 12, 1976; two brothers; six sisters; and one grandson.

      Edith is survived by one son, Don Ralph Dozier of Sawyer; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara (Tammy) Henderson

      Funeral services for Barbara (Tammy) Henderson of Boswell were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Victory Life Church in Boswell with Rev. Roylia Akins officiating. Interment was in Mayhew Cemetery.

      Mrs. Henderson died March 24, 2004, at Medical Center of Southeast Oklahoma in Durant. She was 41.

      She was a member of St. James Baptist Church No. 2.

      Surviving relatives: Two sons, Demetrius Henderson and Demarius Henderson of Boswell; two daughters, Shareka Henderson of Durant and Shakasha Love of Boswell; mother, Jessie Mae Hill of Boswell; seven brothers, George Hill of Hugo, David Henderson of Boswell, Kenneth Hill, William Hill and Lester Ray Henderson, all of Oklahoma City, Ronnie Henderson of Durant, Hosie Henderson, Jr., of Lenard, Texas; three sisters, Bobbie Jo Henderson, Nell Henderson, Thelma Kay Henderson, all of Oklahoma City; one grandchild; one uncle; two aunts; a host of nieces and nephews.

James Thomas “Jimmie” Erwin

      Graveside services for James Thomas “Jimmie” Erwin of Rattan were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, in Cloudy Cemetery.

      Mr. Erwin died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Pushmataha Hospital in Antlers. He was 50.

      Jimmie Erwin was born October 24, 1953, in Cloudy, the son of James & Cora (Duckworth) Erwin. He worked on oil rigs for 23 years, traveling all over the nation. He also worked locally cutting logs, posts and building fence. His favorite pastime was fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Verna Baker.

Surviving relatives: Son, Jason “Erwin” McWhirter of Cloudy; daughter, Cora LawHorn of New Mexico; sisters, Betty LeFlore, Thelma Erwin and Catherine Burk, all of Cloudy, Laura Dunigan and Kay Haltman, both of Guthrie, and Fay Bailey of Tulsa; three grandchildren.

Mabel Belle Nelson

      Funeral services for Mabel Belle Nelson of Rattan were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home Chapel in Hugo, with Rev. Sam Pound officiating. Interment was in Springs Chapel Cemetery.

      Mrs. Nelson died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in Hugo. She was 92.

      Mabel was born May 6, 1911, in Hugo to Granville Loran and Mary Belle (Colley) Springs. She married Marshall O’Neal Nelson. She had lived in this area all of her life and was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband Marshall in 1997; one son, Meredith Eugene Rymel; one sister, Willie Mae Lewis; one brother, Paul Springs; and one granddaughter, Dianne Ross.

      Mabel is survived by two sons, Clinton Bailey Rymel of Sobol and Sammy Joe Rymel of Finley; one daughter, Mary Ann Ward of Bogata, Texas; two brothers, Winfred Springs of Bellflower, Calif., and Ronald Springs of Hugo; 19 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Flora “B” O’Bannon

      Funeral services for Flora “B” O’Bannon of Oklahoma City were held at 10 a.m. April 6 at Church of Christ in Boswell. Interment was at Restland Cemetery in Boswell.

Mrs. O’Bannon died Sunday, April 4, 2004, in Oklahoma City. She was 84.

      Flora was born December 18, 1919, in Direct, Texas, to Joseph and Gracy (Baker) Hicks. She married W.P. O’Bannon in Hugo. She had retired from DHS where she had worked as a home health care aide, and was a member of the Church of Christ in Boswell. She was preceded in death by her husband W.P. O’Bannon in 1966, and one brother, Floyd Hicks.

      She is survived by one son, Mike O’Bannon of Oklahoma City; one sister, Nora Pridemore of Direct, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Judge Keener

      Graveside services for Judge Keener of Boswell were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2004, at Restland Cemetery in Boswell with Bro. Donnie Goodwin officiating.

      Mr. Keener died April 1, 2004, in Hugo. He was 86. He was a retired rancher and a World War II Army veteran.

      He was born June 23, 1917, the son of James Keener and Dora (Cunningham) Keener and had lived all of his life in Choctaw County. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Tiny Keener, one brother, Jack Keener and two sisters, Pauline Lee and Lottie Buster.

      Surviving relatives: Several nieces and nephews.

Eucola Brown

      Funeral services for Eucola Brown of Hugo were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Mt. Sinai Church of God in Christ No. 4 with Rev. John O. Brown officiating. Interment was in Speer Cemetery.

      Mrs. Brown died April 1, 2004, at Hugo Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was 74. She was a member of Church of God in Christ No. 4.

      Surviving relatives: Husband, Rev. John O. Brown of Hugo; two sons, John Brown of Hugo, Kevin Brown of Conway, Ark.; two daughters, Keashi Brown of Hugo, Sharon Jones of Frogville; two brothers, Eugene Harper of Oklahoma City, Norris Starlin of Hugo; four sisters, Vernesta Huff of Hugo, Irene Carter of Oklahoma City, Dossie Mae Hobbs of Palmdale, Calif., Hazel Haymond of Oakland, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.

Lou Ann Hunt

      Graveside services for Lou Ann Hunt, of Paris, Texas, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2004, in Goodland Cemetery, with Bro. Mutt Wallace officiating.

      Mrs. Hunt died April 2, 2004, in Paris, Texas. She was 71. She was an optometrist.

She was born April 15, 1932, in Hugo, and had lived in Paris since 1968. She was preceded in death by her father, Fowler Nabors.

      Surviving relatives: Her ex-husband, Lawrence Hunt of Paris; her mother, Vallie Woodford of Hugo; two sons, Larry “Butch” Hunt and John Hunt, both of Paris; one brother, Dean Woodford of Antlers; three sisters, Beatrice McNeely of Hugo, Dola Simmons of Enid, and Jennie Mackey of Hugo; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Howard W. Davis, Jr.

      Howard W. Davis, Jr., passed away in Concord, New Hampshire on April 1, 2004. He was born September 25, 1956 in West Memphis, Arkansas to Howard (Fuzzy) Davis and Fayrene (Dolly) Wall Davis. For the past 17 years, Howard made his home in Chesterville, Maine, with his loving companion, Pauline.

      Howard was raised in Swink where he attended Swink Elementary School and later Fort Towson High School. He was a member of the Biolermaker [sic] Union, having worked as a welder for Chicago Bridge & Iron, as well as others, building water towers, tanks, high-rise buildings and power plants.

      Howard was preceded in death by his father Howard, Sr., his paternal grandparents: George Davis and Minnie Cecil (Denton) Davis, his maternal grandparents: Otha Wall and Willie Mae (Ammons) Wall, and his cousins, Walter, Ronnie and Smokey Davis.

He is survived by his companion, Pauline Hastings and her three children, Donny, Danny, and Lois; his mother, Dolly Tate and her husband, Billy Tate of East Tawakoni, Texas; his sister, Susan Feller of Oklahoma City, his sister Dian Johnson and her husband Gary, of Valliant, Okla., many very special cousins including Gwen Routh of Smithville, Okla., who was like a sister to him; his cousins Earl, Bill, and Bud Davis who were among his best friends, his nephew Brian Johnson of Valliant, Okla., and his niece Lacrecia Johnson Haynie of Ft. Collins, Colorado.

      Services to celebrate Howard’s life were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at Miller & Miller Funeral Home Chapel, after which he was returned to Maine. Officiating was Tommy Wall, Jr., assisted by Tommy Wall, Sr.

Jessie Hunt Stevens McQueen

      Funeral services for Jessie Hunt Stevens McQueen of Hugo will be held at 10 a.m. April 8, 2004, at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Achille Cemetery in Achille.

      Mrs. McQueen died Monday, April 5, 2004, in Hugo. She was 83.

      Jessie was born February 10, 1921, in Idabel, to Clifford and Ruby (Hendrix) Hunt.

She married Ben Harold Stevens in 1940 and he died in 1970, then she married A.V. McQueen in 1973 and he died in 1982. She graduated from Idabel High School and had lived in Amarillo and Denison, Texas, before moving to Hugo. She had worked as an income tax consultant. She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands.

She is survived by one sister, Lois Hunt Holloway Lawson of Levelland, Texas; a number of nieces and nephews.

Wasco Berzansky

      Graveside services for Wasco Berzansky of Hugo were held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2004, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Rev. Mutt Wallace officiating.

      Mr. Berzansky died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in Hugo. He was 81.

      Wasco Berzansky was born on April 29, 1922 in Nantyglow, Pennsylvania, to Stanley and Catherine Berzansky. He married Myrtle Mae (Tate) on May 18, 1946 in Evansburg, Pennsylvania. He had lived in this community for 31 years after moving here from Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He had worked for the railroad as an engineer in Collinsville, Pennsylvania. Wasco served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from October 12, 1942 to November 24, 1945 and was a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents.

      He is survived by his wife Myrtle Mae Tate Berzansky of the home; two brothers-in-law, Coy Tate and Chester Merritt; one sister-in-law, Jean Merritt; four nieces, Judy Williams, Debbie Sue Merritt, Karen Bachome and Martha Brown; and two nephews, Butch Merritt and Ronald Tate.

Margaret Ann Dorsey

      Funeral services for Margaret Ann Dorsey of Sawyer were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Benny Hammons officiating. Interment was in Fort Towson Cemetery.

      Mrs. Dorsey died Friday, April 9, 2004, in Paris, Texas. She was 58.

      Margaret was born October 22, 1945 in Waverly, Tennessee, to James Lacy and Lorene (Jones) Davis. She married Jennings Dorsey, Sr., on July 25, 1974 in Colorado. She came to Sawyer, Okla., from New Mexico and had lived in Sawyer for 23 years. She was self-employed as a dog breeder. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sharon O’Hehir; her sister-in-law, Betty Davis; and four brothers, Bill, Charles, Lester and John Davis.

      Margaret is survived by her husband, Jennings Dorsey, Sr., of the home in Sawyer, Okla., and together they shared six children: Jennings Dorsey, Jr., of California, John Dorsey of New Mexico, Joanna Gunter and husband Floyd of Sawyer, Okla., Gail Gabriele of California, Christie Green of Chicota, Texas, and Sherry Gatheright and husband Yancy of Rattan, Okla.; four brothers: Vernon Davis and wife Carol of Waverly, Tenn., Harvey Davis and wife Karen of Michigan, Terry Davis and wife Becky of New Mexico, and James Davis of Waverly, Tenn.; her sister-in-law, Ann Davis of Michigan; her brother-in-law, Mike O’Hehir and wife Roz of Michigan; 14 grandchildren, Jeremy, Jason and Jeff Dorsey of Calif.; Dean and Reed Gabriele of California; Tom Locke and wife Laurie of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Ryan Hawkins and wife Whitney of Durant, Okla.; J.W. and Mindy Gunter of Oklahoma; Christopher Grant of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Leigh Ruiz and husband Vicente of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Daylon Gatheright of Arizona; Crystal Gatheright of Arizona; and Kasey Gatheright of New Mexico; two great-grandchildren: Savanna Ruiz of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Christopher Hogg of Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Caroline “Corny” Taylor

      Caroline “Corny” Taylor was born February 27, 1960, in Talihina, Okla., the daughter of Arville David and Willa (Dozier) David and had lived all of her life in Choctaw County. She departed this life on April 9, 2004, at the age of 44 years, one month and 13 days.

      Corny was a homemaker and was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

      She was preceded in death by her father on December 24, 2003.

      She is survived by four sons: Ryan Scott Taylor, John William Taylor, Todd Wayne Taylor and Tad Piearcy Taylor; her mother: Willa David; two sisters: Cindy Allen and her husband Danny, and B.J. David; two brothers: Steve David and his wife Becky, and Scott David; one granddaughter: Mikela Lynn Taylor; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins along with many other relatives and friends.

      Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2004, at Corinth Baptist Church in Fort Towson with Bro. Bennie Hammons officiating. Interment was in Fort Towson Cemetery.

Delbert Ray Todd

      Funeral services for Delbert Ray Todd of Cabot, Ark., were held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2004, at Huson Funeral Home Chapel in Sherwood, Ark. Interment was in Arkansas Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, Ark.

      Mr. Todd died Thursday, April 8, 2004, in Jacksonville, Ark. He was 53.

      Delbert was born on October 6, 1950, in Oklmulgee, Okla., to Franky and Lorene (Adair) Todd. He lived in Cabot, Ark. Delbert married Sherrie Walla on August 9, 1969. He was a retired mail carrier. He lived for his grandchildren and loved to hunt and fish. He was known as the neighborhood daddy to all the kids in Cabot. He was preceded in death by his father.

      Delbert is survived by his wife Sherrie of Cabot, Ark.; one daughter, Marisa and her husband David Conklin of Cabot, Ark.; two grandchildren, Jacob Thomas and Zoe Rachelle Conklin of Cabot, Ark.; mother, Lorene Todd of Hugo; two brothers, Ralph Todd and Ronnie Todd of Hugo; four sisters, Darlene Houser of Boswell, Marlene Robertson of Oklahoma City, Regina Lockwood and Julie Roxberry of Hugo. Delbert is also survived by his extended family, two best buddies, Rocky Roxberry of Hugo and Larry Walla of Caddo Gap, Ark.; his personal chauffer and sister-in-law, Judy Williams of Alexander, Ark., and friend and sister-in-law Terrie Morelock of Benton, Ark., and his mother-in-law, Lois Walla of Bryant, Ark.; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Harvey M. Francis

      Harvey M. Francis (Papa Harv), 83, of Grants Pass died Friday, April 16, 2004 at Three Rivers Community Hospital.

      A visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Friday, April 23, 2004 at Redwood Country Church. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. with Pastor Tom Harvey officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2004 at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

      In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Oregon Right to Life, 4335 River Road North, Salem OR 97303.

      Harvey was born September 6, 1920 in Soper, Oklahoma to Eva and Henry Edward Francis. On August 4, 1940 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas he married Annie L. Atkins. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in the Philippines. After the war, they made their home in Southern California. In 1955 Harvey attended California Baptist College in Riverside, California and in 1957 he moved his family to Lee Vining, California which is located in the heart of the High Sierra's. In 1958 he was ordained as a Southern Baptist Minister in Hawthorne, Nevada. In 1962 he moved his family to Ashland, Oregon. Harvey worked for Pacific Power Company in Medford and also served as interim pastor for various Southern Baptist Churches including Ashland, Phoenix, Glendale, and Gold Hill.

      In 1976 he moved to Grants Pass where he continued to work for Pacific Power & Light until his retirement in 1982.

      He was active in church ministry and mission building in Hawthorne and Tonopah, Nevada and also served in various Christian ministries throughout the High Sierras.

His hobbies included singing, storytelling, nursing home ministry, bible study, prison ministry and he especially enjoyed motorcycle riding.

      He was a charter member of the Southern Oregon Bird Fanciers; a 50-year member of I.B.E.W. Local #18; and joined the Christian Motorcycle Association where he served as chaplain for a few years.

      In addition to his wife of 63 years, Annie L. Francis of Grants Pass, he is survived by two sons, Charles Monroe Francis of Medford; and Gary Ray Francis of Trail; a daughter, Dotty Ann Pantle of Eugene; a brother, Charles Rudolph Francis of Ore City, Texas; four sisters, Leadie Mae Garner of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; Dorothy Ellen Green of Nash, Texas; Martha Ann Ambro of Williams; and Betty Jo Suggs of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Oliver Carl Mabry

      Funeral services for Oliver Carl Mabry of Hugo were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, with Rev. Roscoe Williams officiating. Interment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

      Mr. Mabry died April 10, 2004, at Hugo Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was 79.

Mr. Mabry was retired from Campbell Soup. He was a World War II veteran and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

      Surviving relatives: Wife: Lois Mabry of Hugo; two daughters: Sherra Scott of Midwest City and Letha Grant of Oklahoma City; one sister: Ophelia Franklin of Richmond, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.

Amy Beth Anderson

      Funeral services for Amy Beth Anderson of Wills Point, Texas, were held at  2 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Wills Point with Rev. Don Myers officiating. Burial was in White Rose Cemetery.

      Mrs. Anderson died April 16, 2004, in Wills Point. She was 24.

      Amy Beth Anderson was born March 25, 1980, in Talihina, to Joe Anderson and Wanda Butler. Her childhood was spent in Hugo and Wills Point, and she graduated from Hugo High School. She attended TVCC in Terrell and Eastfield Junior College in Mesquite, moving back to Wills Point in 2000. Amy was an administrative assistant for American National Bank in Crandall and Seagoville.

      She is preceded in death by her grandparents, J.C. and Ruth Lemmond.

      Amy is survived by her husband, Jimmy Brown of Wills Point; daughter, Kendall Brown of Wills Point; parents, Joe and Linda Anderson of Hugo, and Wanda and James Butler of Wills Point; sisters, Angela Kreil of Wills Point and Veronica Anderson of Hugo; brother Adam Merriott of Wills Point; step-brothers, Bryan Berry and Bobby Berry of Hugo, and Jack Berry of Paris, Texas; grandparents, Leroy and Velma Myers; great-grandmother, Mandy Couch of Hugo.

Mary Sue Owen

      Graveside services for Mary Sue Owen of Boswell were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2004, in Soper Cemetery, with Rev. Ron Pickard officiating.

      Mrs. Owen died April 16, 2004, at Antlers Nursing Home. She was 70. She was a retired cook and was of the Pentecostal faith.

      She was born March 25, 1934, in Boswell, the daughter of Thomas Crowder and Lola Ida (Edge) Crowder and had lived most of her life in the Boswell area. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William F. Owen (April 2, 1965) and a brother, Clark Crowder.

      Surviving relatives: One son, Richard Owen of Bokchito; two daughters, Pam Beddo of Talihina and Melody Beddo of Denison, Texas; one sister, Gail West of Boswell; three brothers, Ed Crowder of Shawnee, Julius “Dude” Crowder of Boswell and Tommy Crowder of Unger; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

      Funeral services for Georgetta Wesley of Broken Bow were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Williams Temple Church of God in Christ with Elder Floyd Wesley officiating.

      Interment was in Lukfata Cemetery. Mrs. Wesley died April 15, 2004, in Paris, Texas. She was 61. She was a member of Williams Temple Church of God in Christ.

Swannie Lenora Ingram

      Funeral services for Swannie Lenora Ingram of Mena, Ark., formerly of Sawyer, wereheld at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004, in the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena. Burial was in Fort Towson Cemetery.

      Mrs. Ingram died Sunday, April 18, 2004, in Hot Springs, Ark. She was 69.

      She was born December 8, 1934 in Fort Towson to the late Walter Judd West and the late Mary Francis Henry West. She was united in marriage May 27, 1986, in Wolfe City, Texas, to Mr. B.H. Ingram. Mrs. Ingram was a seamstress for the Wells Lamont Glove Factory in Hugo. She attended the Concord Baptist Church in Ink, Ark., and she was a member of Sawyer Baptist Church.

      She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Louie West, and her sisters, Bonnie Pulliam, Leondel Phillips and Thelma West.

      Survivors: Husband, B.H. Ingram of Mena; sons, Johnny Palmer of Mena, Paddy Palmer of Caddo Gap, Ark.; sister, Mary Francis French of Hugo; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Cindi Baker

      Funeral services for Cindi Baker of Soper were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Soper Assembly of God Church with Rev. Donnie Wagoner officiating. Interment was in Soper Cemetery.

      Mrs. Baker died April 17, 2004, at her home. She was 49. She was a homemaker and a retired nurse. She was of the Assembly of God faith.

      She was born May 29, 1954, in Talihina, the daughter of Leonard Sam and Virginia (Washington) Sam and had lived most of her life in Soper. Her father preceded her in death. Her nephew, Sam Davis, also preceded her in death. She married Jess “Burl” Baker on November 23, 1977, in Antlers.

      Surviving relatives: Her husband, Jess “Burl” Baker; her mother, Virginia Sam of Soper; one son, Christopher Burl Baker of Paris, Texas; one daughter, Melissa “Lisa” Kaye Alley of Detroit, Texas; one brother, Gordon Sam of Dallas; four sisters, Ramona White Tobacco of Newburg, S.C., Pam Hunt of Antlers, Virginia Templeton of Paris, Texas, and Sue Stevens of Boswell; six grandchildren; two nieces, 10 nephews and one great-nephew.

John H. Wilson

      Graveside services for John H. Wilson of Hugo, formerly of Soper, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004, in Sugar Creek Cemetery with Rev. Tim Harless officiating.

      Mr. Wilson died Saturday, April 17, 2004, in Hugo. He was 87.

      John Wilson was born on October 29, 1916 in Soper to John W. and Arrina (Cooper) Wilson. He was a farmer and had lived in Choctaw County all of his life. He had lived and worked with Lee and Barbie Johnson from the age of 13. He never moved farther than five miles from his birthplace. He was preceded in death by his parents.

      Mr. Wilson is survived by three nieces and two nephews.

Dorothy Marie “Dot” (Dancer) Wilson

      Dorothy Marie “Dot” (Dancer) Wilson, 76, of Paris, Texas, died Saturday, April 17, 2004 at her residence after battling liver cancer.

      Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in the Restland Cemetery in Boswell, Oklahoma. Dr. Randall Perry of the First Baptist Church in Paris, Texas, officiated under the direction of Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home of Hugo, Oklahoma. The family received friends immediately following the burial at the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Chapel located in Boswell, Oklahoma. The funeral chapel in Boswell was formerly Mrs. Wilson’s homeplace before renovation, from her adolescence until departing after marriage.

      Mrs. Wilson was born on January 23, 1928 in Boswell, Oklahoma. She was one of 10 girls and three boys born to Harmon and Bertha (Fisher) Dancer. She married Emil Claude Wilson, son of Luther and Clara Wilson of Soper, on June 4, 1947 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. They spent 40 years of their married life in West Texas (mainly Pampa). He was employed by Panhandle Industrial Co., Inc. as the shop superintendent. Dorothy, a beautician and seamstress, owned and operated Dot’s Beauty Salon in Pampa, Texas, and I’Deal Hair by Dot after moving to Paris, Texas, in 1989.

      She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Paris, Texas, where she served as the substitute teacher for the Lydia Sunday School Class.

Being civic minded, Dorothy served her community well as a member of the Kiwanianne Club of Paris for 15 years. She was awarded Kiwanianne of the Year 1991-92, 2002-03, and served as president in 1993-94.

      Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents and eight of her siblings.

Survivors include her husband, Emil of the home in Paris; her son and daughter-in-law, Greg & Peggy Wilson of Dallas; her daughter, Tamra Whittenburg of Paris; two grandchildren, Emilia Whittenburg Adams of Shreveport, La., and Heath Whittenburg of Frisco, Texas; three sisters, Wilmoth Schuessler of Boswell, Prebble Tucker of Longview, Texas, and Joan Elmore of Paris; one brother, D.L. Dancer of Powderly, Texas, along with numerous other significant relatives.

      In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church in Paris, Texas, and the American Cancer Society.

      Dorothy Marie Wilson was a generous and robust Christian woman who lived life to the fullest while putting the needs of her family and friends first. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her.

Calvin Arthur Moyer

      Funeral services for Calvin Arthur Moyer of Soper were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Soper High School Gym with Reverend Tim Harless officiating.

      Interment was in Kosoma Cemetery in Moyers.

      Mr. Moyer died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, in Paris, Texas. He was 79.

      Calvin Moyer was born on July 4, 1924, in Kosoma, Okla., to Samuel Arthur and Thelma F. (Emery) Moyer. He married Audrey Haynes on January 31, 1945, in Ft. Smith, Ark. Calvin had lived in this area since 1950 after moving here from Moyers, Okla., and was a member of the Soper United Methodist Church in Soper, Okla. Calvin served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He retired as vocational agricultural teacher at Soper, Okla., after teaching for 36 years. He was a member of the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association, Oklahoma Historical Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He had touched many lives in his years of teaching and will truly be missed by all that knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Audrey of fifty-eight years. Calvin is survived by: two sons, Rodney Moyer & wife Pam of Soper, and Randy Moyer of Antlers; two daughters, Lacretia Strong and husband Steve of Hydro, Okla., and Rhonda Palmer and husband Paddy of Caddo Gap, Ark.; nine grandchildren, Angie Thurman and husband Terry of Soper, Bryan Moyer and wife Jennifer of Soper, Jennifer Hill of Soper, Troy Strong of Hydro, Cindy Haugen and husband Brent, Randle Moyer and Rendy Moyer both of Antlers, Ryan Buchanan and wife Shawna of Caddo Gap, Ark., Ray Lynn Buchanan of Caddo Gap, Ark., and five step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, Carli & Brock Haugen of Springtown, Texas, Keely & Nakie Thurman of Soper, Emilee & Avery Moyers of Soper, Haleigh & Sidney Buchanan of Caddo Gap, Ark., and two step-great grandchildren.

      Janis was born April 2, 1955 in Hugo to Bill and Joe Carolyn (Palmer) Bloodworth. She married Mark Shaeffer on December 3, 1998, in Arkansas. Janis was a member of Clayton Avenue Baptist Church. Janis was preceded in death by her parents and great-grandparents, the late Joe T. and Hazel Palmer.

      Janis is survived by one daughter, Contessa Brannan of Paris; two brothers, Billy Dale Bloodworth and Tommy Bloodworth of Hugo; a sister, Barbara Bloodworth of Hugo; one grandchild; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Ricky Wilkins

      Graveside services for Ricky Wilkins of Hugo were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2004, at Restland Cemetery in Boswell with Bucky Ensey and Donnie Goodwin officiating.

      Mr. Wilkins died April 21, 2004, at Choctaw Memorial Hospital. He was 41. He was an auto mechanic.

      He was born April 14, 1963 in Hugo, the son of Robert Wilkins and Patsy Mitchell, and had lived most of his life in Choctaw County. His father preceded him in death. He married Nancy “Robin” Whitson on February 27, 1987 in Paris, Texas.

      Surviving relatives: His wife, Nancy “Robin” Wilkins; his mother Patsy Mitchell and step-dad Rex Mitchell of Durant; one son, Christopher Stanford of Amarillo, Texas; one daughter, Amber Stanford of Hugo; two brothers, Roger Wilkins of Hawaii and Michael Wilkins of Washington; two sisters, Becky Houchen of Millerton and Melissa of Durant; one grandson.

Boyce Juan Karr

      Mr. Karr died Thursday, April 22, 2004, in Hugo. He was 66.

      Boyce Juan Karr was born on December 11, 1937 in Hugo to Louis Calvin and Jewel Irene (Smith) Karr. He had lived in Hugo all of his life and was a truck driver prior to his retirement.

      Boyce is survived by one son, Steve Karr of Hugo; one daughter, Terry Hale of Fort Towson; one brother, Calvin Louis Karr of Sinton, Texas; one sister, Katherine Nunnally of Amarillo, Texas; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Odie Lee Karr and his sister, Nina Lee Gilham.

      Rita Peddy was born February 27, 1946, in Oklahoma City, the daughter of Neal W. Thornburgh and Elnora Beatrice (Sharp) Thornburgh. She married Jack Peddy on April 5, 1967 in Corsicana, Texas. She was a member of Hugo First Baptist Church.

      Surviving relatives: Husband, Jack Peddy of the home; daughter, Sheila Peddy of Hugo; son and daughter-in-law, David & Angie Peddy of Hugo; brother and sister-in-law, W. Selma Sanguin Baker

      FORT WORTH - Selma Sanguin Baker, 86, a retired administrative assistant, passed away Friday, April 23, 2004, in Fort Worth.

      A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Garden Chapel. The family received friends after the service at the home of Lauren Sewell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2401 Scott Ave., Fort Worth 76103.

      Selma Sanguin Baker was born Sept. 25, 1917, in Hugo, Okla. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an extremely generous person who never met a stranger, always willing to help anyone and volunteer her time. She loved to travel and to paint.

      Kathryn was born on January 5, 1920, in Copperas Cove, Texas, to Harry J. and Mu Hulda (Winters) Mayben. She had lived in Hugo for the past seven years after moving here from Hurst, Texas and was a member of the Church of Christ. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Association of Cosmetology of New Mexico where she had served as president and was a national officer. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and three sisters.

      She is survived by two sons, Clifford Ulice Barnes of Denison, Texas and Bob. J. Franklin Barnes of Bismarck, N.D.; two daughters, Frances M. Damron of Sawyer and Mary Ella Gentry of Boerne, Texas; one sister, Mary Beth Mayben of Clovis, N.M.; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

      He was born April 23, 1928 in Wright City, the son of James Henry Downing and Ora Bell Paige and had lived all of his life in the Valliant community. His parents preceded him in death.

      Betty was born on December 24, 1945 in Alexandria, La., to Alvin George and Wilma (Embry) Koonce. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and her twin sister.

      Betty is survived by one brother, Alvin Gayle Koonce of Hugo; one niece and two nephews and several grand nieces and nephews.

Donny Eugene Murrell

 

      Funeral services for Donny Eugene Murrell of Baker City, Ore., will be in Baker City, Ore. under the direction of Grey West Funeral Home. Memorial services locally are pending.

      Mr. Murrell died Monday, April 26, 2004 in Baker City, Ore. He was 62.

      Donny was born on June 13, 1941, in Grant, Okla., to Edgar and Inez Murrell. He attended Grant High School before serving in the U.S. Navy for four years, from 1958 to 1962. He was employed by the Civil Service for 30 years before his retirement. Donny enjoyed the great outdoors, especially gold mining. He was a very devoted son, husband, father and brother. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his father.

      Donny is survived by his wife, Esa Murrell of Baker City, Ore.; his mother, Inez Cochran of Hugo; a son, Jacob Murrell, and a daughter, Jessica and husband Tom Poffenroth, all of Portland, Ore.; brothers and sisters, Larry Murrell and wife Ann of Dallas, Vernie Smart and husband Oscar of Rosebud, Texas, Ronnie Henderson of Mesquite, Texas, Louis Henderson and Kay Rosenthal and husband Jack, both of Hugo, Lois Burk and John Cochran, both of Marionville, Mo., and Joe Cochran and wife Sondra of Mesquite, Texas, and and many other loving family members and friends.

      Funeral services for Louie Roberson of Boswell were held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2004, at Goodsprings Presbyterian Church with Don Tims officiating. Interment was in Goodsprings Cemetery near Boswell.

      Mr. Roberson died April 27, 2004, at his home. He was 76. He was an Army veteran and was of the Presbyterian faith.

      Mr. Roberson was born November 30, 1927 in Eldorado, Okla., the son of Erbie & Rosie (Armstrong) Roberson. He married Carrie Ruth Roberson on March 17, 1948. She preceded him in death on April 20, 2001. His parents, six brothers and one sister also preceded him in death.

      Surviving relatives: Three sons, Harold Wayne Roberson, Alan Roberson, and Randall Roberson, all of Boswell; two daughters, Carol Hunnicutt and Regina Roberson, both of Boswell; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

      Willie was born on October 26, 1909 in Madill to William C. and Eliza (Crosby) Connell. He had lived in the Boswell area all of his life. He had served his country in the U.S. Army from 1939 until 1945. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

      Willie is survived by one nephew, one niece and two great-nephews.

      Mr. Eastwood died Thursday, April 29, 2004, in Hugo. He was 84.

      John A. Eastwood was born January 18, 1920 on the Eastwood homeplace southwest of Boswell, the son of “Buster” and Lillie Belle (Phillips) Eastwood. He married Alice Irene Chandler on September 23, 1942 in Boswell. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He resided in this area all of his life, working as a father, husband and rancher. He was baptized in the Baptist faith. Mr. Eastwood was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.

      Surviving relatives: Wife, Alice Irene Eastwood of the home; children, Shirley Riggs of California, Michelle Clary of Mabank, Texas, Bruce E. Eastwood of Boswell, Ellen Fitzgerald of Tulsa, John W.       Mr. Hooker died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, in Hugo. He was 19.

      Jason Hooker was born August 27, 1984 in Antlers, the son of Jonathan & Tammy Hooker. He was raised in this area, graduating from Rattan High School in 2002. He worked construction and enjoyed breaking horses.

      Mrs. Wamsley died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, in Dallas. She was 86.

      Dorothy was born on October 6, 1917 in Joplin, Missouri, to Walter and Dewey (Wylie) Crabtree. She had lived in Rockwall, Texas, for 33 years after moving there from the Fort Towson and Idabel area. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to her son, daughter-in-law, Kathryn (McRorey) Hodges, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

      Dorothy is survived by one son, David L. Hodges and wife, Kathryn (McRorey) Hodges of Rockwall, Texas; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Richard Dean Loftin

 

      A memorial service for Richard Dean Loftin of Wetumka, formerly of Hugo, was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

      Mr. Loftin died Thursday, April 29, 2004, in Oklahoma City. He was 57.

      Richard Dean Loftin was born on June 8, 1946 in Hugo to T.H. and Juanita (Glaze) Loftin. He had lived in Hugo for 36 years before moving to Wetumka where he had lived for the past 15 years. He graduated from Hugo High School in 1966 and was of the Baptist Faith.

      Richard is survived by his mother, Juanita (Glaze) Loftin of Hugo; two brothers, Tim Loftin and Lindy Loftin, both of Hugo; one niece, two nephews and one uncle. He was preceded in death by his father, T.H. Loftin in 1986. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
