CHOCTAW COUNTY BOY KILLED
The Hugo Husonian April 1918 - transcribed by Ron Henson
Herman Kiel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Kiel, one and a half miles northeast of Ft. Towson, was killed in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Monday of this week, according to a telegram received by the victim’s father.
No particulars are available beyond the fact that he was mortally wounded by a policeman, but the supposition is that he was engaged in an act contrary to law. The facts are the boy has given the officers of this county considerable trouble.
The dead man was the son of parents highly esteemed in this county, and his tragic taking away is a severe shock to them.
Mr. Keil [sic] was about 25 years of age and a widower, his wife, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Ratton, having died about three years ago. He leaves three children, William and Roy, who live with his parents, and Soloman, living with Mr. Ratton.
Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers, Pearl and Buford Kiel, and two sisters, Mrs. John Taylor and Miss Ruth Kiel.
Mr. Kiel notified the Cape Girardeau authorities to hold the remains until he could arrive there, and he left Tuesday for that place.
