VETERAN’S BODY SENT TO HUGO
Funeral for Richard B. Maxey to Be Held at Shoals Sunday
The Hugo Daily News October 26, 1921 - transcribed by Ron Henson
The body of Richard B. Maxey, bugler in Company B, 343rd infantry, 90th Division, A.E.F., who was killed in action overseas, was received here Tuesday night, and now lies in state at the Senner Undertaking Parlor.
Funeral services will be held at Shoals, Maxey’s home, Sunday. A military funeral will be given by members of the Lock Sanders Post of The American Legion.
A number of legionnaires are expected by Post Commander Harry Goldfeder to be present at the meeting.
Maxey was a brother of Mrs. May Wood of Hugo.
Erroneous Statement Concerning Funeral of Elliot Corrected

In an article appearing in yesterday’s issue of the Daily News, it was stated that the body of Noel M. Elliot, brother-in-law of Frank McAlwee, Frisco dispatcher, was shipped here for burial. The statement was erroneous, due to wrong information received.
Interment services of the three year old son of Noel M. Elliot will be held at the Mount Olivet Cemetery at 4 o’clock Wednesday afternoon.
Parents of the child accompanied the body here from Cove, Arkansas. Pyle B. Wood of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, also arrived here for the interment services.
Milton Neal Called By Death

Funeral Services for Milton Neal were held at the Sobol Cemetery Monday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. L.C. Barns officiating and the Coffey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Neal was born March 5, 1931, and died at the Talihina Hospital Sunday, following an illness of several months.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. [?] Neal of Fort Towson, two sisters, Mrs. Floyd W?s??sworth [unreadable], Juanita Neal, three Brothers, Junior Neal, Chester Neal and Coy Neal, all of Fort Towson.
Funeral Services For Infant Lestil Cannedy

Funeral services for Lestil Cannedy, age 7 months, 110 days, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. [unreadable] Cannedy of near Messer was held at the Ft. Towson cemetery Thursday afternoon at 3:00 P.M. Rev. Geo. M. Battings of the Assembly of God Church in Ft Towson officiating. The child was survived by Father and Mother and five brothers and a host of friends.
Sawyer Lady Called By Death

Mrs. Frank (Bunnie) Scott, mother of Grover C. Scott of Sawyer, died at her son’s home at 7:15 o’clock Wednesday. She had been in ill health for some time.
Funeral services, which were in charge of Snow Funeral home, were conducted at the Snow chapel at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon by the Rev. M.N. McFarland, Baptist minister. Interment was in Shoat Springs cemetery.
Mrs. Scott was a native of Cassville, Missouri, where she was born August 25, 1870. She is survived by her husband, Frank Scott; two sons, Grover C. Scott and Earnest Scott, of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Mrs. Earl Ice of Delaware, and Mrs. Ruth Jones, of Bristow. Three sisters and two brothers also survive.
Vancil Funeral Held At Sawyer

Funeral service for W.M. Vancill, 89, was held Tuesday at the Church of Christ in Sawyer. R.H. Stanley of Hugo officiating, and interment was made in Sawyer Cemetery by Snow Funeral Home.
Born March 24, 1853 in Minton City Mo, he died Saturday at his home in Sawyer after 65 years’ residence in Oklahoma. Surviving are Mrs. Vancill and three children; F.M. Vancill, Clarksville, Texas; C.C. Vancill, Sawyer; Robert D. Vancill, Camp Hood, Tesas; Mrs. Annie Carter, Kerrville, Texas, and Mrs. Fannie Kelly, Levelland, Texas.
Aged Sawyer Man Died Mon.

Funeral services for Jim Cole, aged Sawyer resident, who was found dead at his home on the Press Atkinson place late Monday, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sawyer under the direction of the Snow Funeral home.
The elderly man apparently died during a heart attack. He was a native of Texas, where he was born July 1, 1854.

Robert Nelson, aged 94 years Fort Towson’s oldest citizen, passed away at his home here Tuesday afternoon following a short illness. Funeral services were held at the Fort Towson cemetery Wednesday with Rev. G.M. Billings, pastor of the Assembly of God church, officiating. Interment was in charge of Wilson Funeral Home of Idabel.
Mr. Nelson was born in Mississippi in the year of 1864 and came to Oklahoma several years later. He had resided in this community for the past twelve years, coming here from Duncan.
Besides his wife, Mr. Nelson is survived by four daughters, Mrs. W.E. Nichols of Fort Towson, Mrs. J.M. Barker and Mrs. Arthur Johnson both of Walters and Mrs. Pete Morris of Grant; one son, Sam Nelson of Texas; and also by sixteen grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral Held For Aged Lady Here

Mrs. Mary A. Boatman, age 72, died Wednesday night at her home here after a two week’s illness with heart trouble.
Mrs. Boatman was born in Missouri August 16, 1870. Most of her life had been spent in Arkansas. She has resided in Fort Towson about three years.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ here Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. Browning, of Hugo. Coffey Funeral Home was in charge of interment which was made in the Fort Towson cemetery.
Mrs. Boatman is survived by her husband, S.J. Boatman of this community; one daughter, Mrs. Mahala Souls of Waldo, Ark; two sons, Henry Boatman of Fulton Ark.; and Richard Boatman of Fort Towson; and two brothers and seventeen grandchildren.
Mrs. I. Stephens Died Here Wed.

Funeral services for Mrs. Iona Jane Stephens 59, were held at Swink Thursday morning with Rev. Landers, pastor of the Baptist church at Ft. Towson officiating and the Senner Funeral home in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Swink cemetery.
Mrs. Stephens died at the family home two miles north of Ft. Towson Wednesday morning at 5:45 following an illness of many years. She has resided in the Ft. Towson community for the past thirty-five years and was well known in this section of the county.
She is survived by her husband, C.S. Stephens and three daughters, Mrs. Bessie Reed, Tulsa, Mrs. Lucille McIntosh, Ft. Towson, Mrs. Fes Wilson, Ft Towson, and three sons, Jim Stephens, Hugo; Vernon Stephens, Camp Daven Mass., and Melvia Stephens, San Francisco. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Susie Bissel [?], Mrs. Anoie Barrett and Mrs. Maggie Barrett, all of Ft. Towson and a brother, A.J. Niece, Springfield, Mo.

Funeral services were held at the Fort Towson Cemetery Thursday afternoon for Earley Frank Stone, age five years, who died Tuesday at the Crippled Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. Rev. DeGraff [unreadable] of Oklahoma City officiated and was assisted by Rev. G.M. Billings, local pastor of the Assembly of God church.
The child is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Stone of this community; three brothers, Joe D. of Honolulu, Hawaii, Daniel [1] and Bobby of Fort Towson; and six sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Long of Brinkmen, Mrs. Mabel [unreadable] [2] and Misses Alice, Edna, V [3] and Rosie Lee Stone, all of Fort Towson.Corrections:

W.J. Heflin Died Thurs.

John Walter Johnson Heflin, age 69 years, long time resident of this community died at his home early Thursday morning after an illness of several weeks.
Funeral services were held at the Fort Towson Cemetery Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. G.M. Billings, pastor of the Assembly of God church, assisted by Evangelist DeGraffearled. Burial was under the direction of Senner Funeral Home.
Mr. Heflin is survived by one brother Joe Heflin, and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Smith, both of Fort Towson; two nieces, Mrs. Eota [?] Martin and Mrs. Audra Holkum of this community; and two nephews, Rev. [unreadable] Smith of Haskell, Texas, and Dillard Smith of Fort Towson.
Frogville Citizen Died Monday
The Ft Towson Sentinel November 6, 1942 - transcribed by Ron Henson
Funeral services for J.W. Williams, well known resident of Frogville, were held at Shoals Tuesday afternoon at o’clock [sic] by the Rev. Bill Golden, of Fort Towson. Burial was in Shoals cemetery.
Mr. Williams, who was about 73 years of age, died at 7 o’clock Monday morning after a long illness. He had lived at Frogville for many years.
He is survived by a number of sons and daughters, including Mrs. Alise Rogers, Mrs. Clara Yardley and Mrs. Maude Williams, all of Frogville; Les Williams, of Fort Worth, Texas, Bert Williams, of Valliant; and Grover Williams, whose home is in McCurtain county.
