Mrs. Lizza Upchurch Funeral Sunday A.M.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lizza Upchurch, aged 65, will be held at Grant Sunday morning.
The services will be conducted by Reverend Ward, at 11 o’clock with interment being held in the Grant Cemetery.
Snow Funeral home will have charge of funeral arrangements.

Miss Ruth Hayes To Be Buried Here Sun.

The body of Miss Ruth Hayes, of Grant Oklahoma, who died suddenly at Washington, D.C., Sunday, will arrive in Hugo Friday, according to word from the Coffey-Campbell Funeral home late Tuesday night.
In all probability funeral services will be held at Grant Sunday, although this was not definitely announced Tuesday.
The body left Washington Tuesday said the word to the Hugo Funeral home.
Mrs. R.E. Crossett Died At Her Home In Soper Monday
Funeral Will Be Held There With Burial At Davis, Okla.

Funeral services for Mrs. R.E. Crossett, will be held at the home at Soper, Wednesday at 9 o’clock and burial will take place in the family plot at Davis, Okla., at 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Crossett underwent a major operation in the Scott-White hospital, Temple, Texas, about two weeks ago and was sufficiently recovered to be brought home, arriving at Soper Monday afternoon.
She died about 7:30 o’clock Monday night.
Before her marriage to Mr. Crossett, she was Miss Cassie Lee McBee, and was born at Gainesville, Texas.
She and Mr. Crossett were united in marriage March 12, 1916 and immediately established their home at Soper, where Mr. Crossett was the publisher of the Soper Democrat.
She had been in failing health for about 10 years.
She is survived by her husband, five sisters and two brothers. The sisters are: Mrs. E.G. Kirks, Birmingham, Ala., who is well known in Hugo and will be remembered as Miss Frona McBee, who was in the employee of the Steven-Lambeth company for a short time; Mrs. Allie Stodgiell, Duncan, Okla.; Mrs. Floyd Dodson, Los Angles, Calif; Mrs. E.E. Dale, Ponca City., and Mrs. M.C. Ferguson, of Stratford, Oklahoma. The brothers are Lloyd McBee, Altus, Okla., and Guy McBee, Enid, Okla.
Her death was a great shock to the wide circle of friends in Soper, Hugo and surrounding communities.
Mr. Crossett has been publisher of The Soper Democrat for the past 18 years and is widely known in newspaper circles in the state.
Fort Towson Woman Buried Wednesday

Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Vancil, of Fort Towson, who died Tuesday night at her home at Fort Towson, were held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock, according to information from the Senner funeral home which had charge of funeral arrangements.
The long time resident of Fort Towson is survived by her husband, Lee Vancil, and four children, Ollis June, Eugene Calhoun and Billy. Two sisters, Mrs. Joyce Pierce of Wichett, Texas, and Mrs. Ozie Garland, of Greenland Oklahoma, and brothers, Willis Hankins, Soper, Oklahoma, and Levi Hankins, of New Mexico.
Mrs. Vancil was 46 years of age at the time of her death.
Funeral For Mrs. J.L. Sneed Held

Funeral services for Mrs. J.L. Sneed of Fort Towson, were held this morning at 10:30 o’clock in the Fort Towson cemetery, word from the Snow Funeral home said at noon.
Mrs. Sneed died yesterday afternoon.
Fulmer Rites To Be Held Thursday
Funeral Services to Be Held In Christian Church

Funeral services for Miss Ardelia Fulmer, aged 26, who died early this morning, will be held Thursday morning at the First Christian church.
Interment will follow in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, said word from the Snow Funeral home this morning, which will have charge of funeral arrangements.
Death occurred, according to physicians attending her from self-administered poison, which she is alleged to have taken Sunday afternoon.
She is survived by her father, W.B. Fulmer, a son, Ronald Norwood, three sisters, Mrs. Max Weems, of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. H.W. Dittner, of Fort Worth, Texas, and one brother, Homer E. Fulmer, of Kansas.
Death occurred this morning at about 4:15 o’clock, according to the information to The News today.
Noel Skelton Died In Lawton
No Funeral Arrangements Announced for Aged Indian

No funeral arrangements had been announced today by the Snow funeral home, for Noel Skelton, 65 year old Indian, former resident of the Gay community.
Mr. Skelton died in a Lawton hospital Sunday morning following a long illness.
Several years ago Mr. Skelton was sentenced to life imprisonment from Choctaw county in connection with the death of his step-son.
It was alleged at the trial that Skelton stabbed Greedwood 28 times, most of the wounds being of a fatal nature. He was later given a pardon and during the past two years had been living in the Lawton district.
J.N. Fodge Died In Fort Towson
Interment Took Place There Monday Afternoon

Funeral services for J.N. Fodge, 81, of Fort Towson were held this afternoon at the First Baptist church there, word from the Senner Funeral home stated late this afternoon.
The aged and well loved Fort Towson resident succumbed at his home Sunday afternoon following a long illness.
Mr. Fodge had been a resident of the Fort Towson community for many years.
The funeral rites were read by the Reverend G.R. Naylor, of Ada, Oklahoma.
Interment followed in the Doaksville, cemetery.
John Hammond Died In Soper
Aged Man Died of An Heart Attack, Is Report

John Hammond, aged 61, of Soper, dropped dead in a pasture near his home yesterday, according to information to The News today.
No funeral arrangements were announced as word was being waited from relatives who live in Georgia.
He is survived by four sons, and two daughters.
The body of Mr. Hammond was found by one of his sons who had gone in search of him after he had failed to return from a trip through the field back of his home.
A coroner’s inquest indicated that he died of heart failure.
Mrs. A. Vanderpool Buried in Paris

Funeral services for Mrs. Amada Vanderpool, widow of the late J.W. Vanderpool, died at the family home on West Clayton late Friday afternoon.
Funeral services were held at the residence, and the body was taken to Paris, Texas, where interment took place in the Evergreen cemetery.
Snow Funeral home had charge of funeral arrangements.
Double Funeral Held At Grant Sunday P.M.

Two funerals were conducted by Reverend J.B. Ward, pastor of the Clayton Avenue Baptist church Sunday at Grant.
The services, under the direction of the Snow Funeral home were for Mrs. Lizza Upchurch, aged 65, and Thomas N. Brown, aged 60.
The services were held in the Baptist church of Grant. Interment took place in the Grant cemetery.
Hugo Infant Dies Early Monday A.M.
Jarrel Lee Castleberry To Be Buried Tuesday Afternoon

Jarrell [sic] Lee Castleberry, aged about 16 months, died Monday morning at about 8 o’clock following an illness of about six weeks.
He died at his home on North E street.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. D.F. Castleberry had been afflicted with a type of "sleeping sickness," according to attending physicians.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the home of his parents, with Reverend J.B. Ward, officiating. Interment will take place later in the Mount Olivet cemetery.
Surviving relatives are his parents, his grand parent, Mr. and Mrs. M.G. Castleberry, of Sooper [sic], Texas; four aunts, Mrs. Leona Watson, Hugo, Miss Pauline Watson, Oklahoma City; Mrs. Bronson, and Mrs. Huggins, of Ben Franklin, Texas. Uncles surviving are Willard and Russell Watson of Hugo and Herman Castleberry of Ben Franklin, Texas.
Coffey-Campbell had charge of the funeral arrangements.
Pall bearers for the services were: John Sturges, W.W. Biard, Travis Hawkins and Lionel O’Neal.
Kernell Rites Were Held This Afternoon

Funeral services for C.J. Kernell, aged 61, will be held this afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Spring’s Chappel [sic] cemetery.
Lionel O’Neal will officiate at the services.
Mr. Kernell died at the Hugo Hospital early yesterday afternoon.
Snow Funeral home will have charge of the funeral arrangements.
Ft. Towson Woman Buried Sunday
Mrs. Amelia Brannon Died Saturday At Her Home
The Hugo Daily News November 23, 1936 – transcribed by Ron Henson
Funeral services for Mrs. Amelia Anne Brannon of Fort Towson, were held Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church at that city at 2:30 o’clock.
The Reverend G.R. Naylor, had charge of the funeral arrangements.
The Senner funeral home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Mrs. Brannon died Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Gertrude Fodge. At the time of her death she was 93 years of age. She was born in Kentucky in 1843.
She is survived by the following grandchildren: Jess Skinner, Willis Broady and Mrs. Gertrude Fodge, all of Fort Towson.
Sixteen great grand children and eight great-great grand children also survive Mrs. Brannon.
Pall bearers were Russell Swartz, Virgil Yates, Therman Broady, Thomas Fodge, Trans Fodge and W.M. Fodge, all of Fort Towson.
Former Hugo Student Died Tuesday P.M.

Oscar Williams, a former Hugo High school graduate, died at his home in Wynnewood Tuesday, an announcement to The New today stated.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3 o’clock at Wynnewood, Oklahoma.
The deceased was the son of Isaac Williams.
Mrs. B.F. Herman Died Thurs. A.M.
Funeral Will Be Held At Nelson Friday Afternoon

Mrs. B.F. Herman, aged 84, mother of Ben P. Herman, county superintendent, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sam Nelson at Norman, Oklahoma early this morning, word received here announced today.
Mr. Herman who was visiting schools in the North Boswell community was notified of his mother’s death by Miss Maurine Tyus, deputy in the county superintendent’s office.
Mrs. Herman had been in failing health for some time, but it was only recently that she had been bedridden.
Surviving relatives are six sons: James and J.B. of Antlers; W.M. of Miller; Price of Binger; D.H. of Nelson, and Ben P. Herman, of Nelson, and five daughters, Mrs. D.L. Green, of Cumby, Texas; Mrs. C.E. Vandergriff, of Forney; Mrs. S.F. Nelson, Norman; Mrs. J.W. Harbuck, of Napps, Calif.; Mrs. S.C. Harbuck, of Kent.
Funeral services will be held at Nelson at 2 p.m. Friday, the announcement stated. Burial will take place in the Sugar Creek cemetery.
H.F. Upchurch Buried At Grant
Pioneer Resident Of That Community Died Sunday

Funeral services for H.F. Upchurch, of Grant, were held this morning at the Grant cemetery.
According to the information from the Snow Funeral home which had charge of funeral arrangements, Mr. Upchurch died of pneumonia Sunday at noon.
Funeral services were conducted in the Baptist church at Grant.
About ten days ago, Mrs. Lizza Upchurch, wife of the deceased preceded him in death and was buried in the family plat in the same cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Upchurch had been residents of the Grant Community for the past quarter century.
