Ft. Towson Resident To Be Buried Today
The Hugo Daily News January 28, 1937 – transcribed by Ron Henson
William Henry Howard, of Sawyer, died early Wednesday morning and will be buried this afternoon at 8 o’clock.
Funeral services will be held at the Sawyer school house.
Reverend McFarland will be in charge of the Funeral Services. Interment will be made in the Sawyer cemetery.
Senner Funeral home will have charge of funeral arrangements.
Miss Joyce Owen to Be Buried This P.M.

Miss Joyce Mae Owen, of Rattan, Oklahoma, 13 years old, died at noon Wednesday, according to word from the Senner Funeral home.
Funeral services were held today at 2 o’clock and interment was made in the Rattan cemetery.
Reverend Linkwaller, presided at the services.
Survivors were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Owens; three sisters, Viola, Opal and Margaret, and three brothers, Cecil, John Preston, and Travis.
Leslie Byrns Was Buried In Mount Olivet This A.M.
Services Conducted At First Christian Church

Funeral services for Leslie E. Byrns were held at the First Christian church here at ten o’clock Monday morning, with the Rev. C.W. Ferguson, pastor, conducting.
The great number of floral offerings and the large attendance bore mute evidence of the high esteem in which he was held in this community.
The pastor spoke briefly on the life that had been lived by Mr. Byrns ending with the declaration "That the life lived by Mr. Byrns in this community – the attendance of these hundreds of sorrowing friends from every walk of life, has erected a monument more lasting than can be erected by human hands."
Pallbearers were Hugh Johnson, J.R. Milling, W.H. Andrews, Willard Blair, John Hoffman and George Smith, all of whom were associated with Mr. Byrns in his work at the post office.
Mr. Byrns was stricken with appendicitis on June 29 and taken to a sanitarium in Paris where he underwent an operation. His condition grew serious and little hope was entertained for his recovery.
He died at 7:30 Saturday evening, July 6.
Burial took place in Mt. Olivet cemetery under the direction of the Snow Funeral home.
Survivors are his widow and adopted daughter, Francene; sisters Misses Ethel and Bertha Byrns; brothers, Clarence Byrns, editor of the Southwest American, Ft. Smith, and Elgin Byrns, also of Ft. Smith.
Robbins Rites Held Thursday
Hugo Resident Killed As He Attempted to Board Train

According to information here today from Mrs. Oscar Robbins, her husband, who was killed at Pauls Valley Tuesday in a train accident was buried there this afternoon.
Robbins was en route home from Pauls Valley where he had been seeking a job, when the tragedy occured [sic].
Mrs. Robbins stated that he attempted to board a freight train and that in some manner lost his hold on the car ladder handles and was hurled under the wheels of the cars, which severely mutilated his body.
Death was instantaneous.
Robbins was the former door keeper of the OERA office here.
He is survived by his widow and an eight year old son, and four brothers and two sisters.
Marlene Worthy Died Early Tuesday Morn

Marlene Worthy, 16 months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Worthy, died early Tuesday morning at the family home three miles southeast of Hugo, after a several days illness.
Funeral services were held at the family home with burial in Springs Chapel at 3 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. A. LeRoy Elkins, pastor of the Church of Christ officiating.
The deceased is survived by her parents and one sister, Emma Jean.
Senner Funeral home directed the funeral services.
Pete Roman Died at Home of Sister Wed.
The Hugo Daily News August 22, 1935 – transcribed by Ron Henson
Pete Roman, aged about 74 years, died suddenly at the home of his sister on West Main Street at about mid night last night.
No funeral arrangements were announced today, pending word from a relative, in the northern part of the state.
Death occurred shortly after Mr. Roman had returned from a soft ball game. Funeral services will be under the direction of the Snow Funeral home when conducted, the announcement stated.
Emery L. Kemper Died Thurs. P.M.
Burial Will Be Held Here Saturday Morning
The Hugo Daily News August 23, 1935 – transcribed by Ron Henson
Emery L. Kemper, aged 80 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A.B. Sanders at 408 North G street Thursday evening at 7 o’clock.
Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend J.B. Ward, according to word from the Senner Funeral home which will be in charge of funeral arrangements.
The deceased has lived in this community since 1917, and was beloved by all who knew him.
Surviving relatives are, five sons, John of Tulia, Tex., Dee of Melrose, New Mexico; Max of Brooklyn, N.Y., Charles of New Mexico, and Henry, of Mangum, Okla., and three daughters, Mrs. F.D. Greer, Waurika, Okla.; Mrs. Claude Medlia, Spencerville and Mrs. A.B. Sanders of Hugo, at whose home death occured [sic].
Pall bearers at the funeral will be James Milling, Bud Fly, Frank Shroeder, Ernest Broyles, Leonard Vanderpool and A.M. Morrill.
Lowden Funeral to Be Held Saturday

Mrs. Nancy Lowden, died at the home of Charles Loomis west of Hugo at 8:15 o’clock Friday night.
Funeral services will be held at the home at 4 p.m. Saturday with the Senner funeral home in charge. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Nelly Berry, two granddaughters, Misses Betty Ann and Frances Lowden of Oklahoma City and Charles Loomis, Hugo.
William David Maloney To Be Buried Thurs.
The Hugo Daily News August 28, 1935 – transcribed by Ron Henson
William David Maloney, aged 78, died at his home at Soper at 5:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon.
Funeral services will be held at 9 o’clock Thursday morning with burial at Commerce, Texas, with the Reverend H.M. Crosby officiating, according to word from the Senner Funeral home, which will be in charge of funeral arrangements.
He is survived by his widow, Alpha Maloney, five sons, John, Homer, Earl, Leonard, and Fred, all of Soper, and four girls, Miss Lemna Maloney, of Stillwater, Miss Frieda [?], of Soper, Mrs. K.P. Hampton, of Seminole, and Mrs. H.T. Smith, of Oklahoma City.
Miss Maloney Attends Funeral of Father

Miss Lemna Maloney, district home demonstrator, was in Hugo Saturday.
She was called to her home in Soper the middle of the past week to attend the funeral of her father, W.D. Maloney, pioneer Soper resident who died Wednesday.
