J.T. Baze Funeral Conducted Tuesday

J.T. Baze, 45-year old resident of the Rock Hill community, died Monday, December 28.
The Rev. Mr. Aubrey, of Paris, Texas, conducted the funeral service at Shoat Springs cemetery Tuesday afternoon. Lock Sanders post, American Legion, took part in the service at the grave.
Mr. Baze is survived by his widow and five children.
Funeral arrangements were under direction of the Senner Funeral home.
Nine-Day Old Son Of Speer Residents Dies
The Southeast Oklahoman December 31, 1931 – transcribed by Ron Henson
Funeral services for the nine-day old son of Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Cole, of Speer, were conducted Thursday at the Messer cemetery. The child died early the same day.
Surviving relatives include the mother and father, four brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Johnnie McHam Buried Wednesday

Funeral services for Mrs. Johnnie McHam, aged 56, were conducted Wednesday afternoon by the Rev. Mr. Guthrie at the family home on North F street. Burial was in the Springs Chapel cemetery.
Mrs. McHam, whose death occurred Tuesday, is survived by a son, Harry McHam, of Hugo

Death of J.N. Jones, aged 69, occurred Friday morning, December 25, at one o’clock. Funeral service was conducted at three o’clock that same afternoon by the Rev. J.D. McGraw, of Spencerville.

Mrs. R.P. Shields Dies At Residence Near Messer

Mrs. R.P. Shields, 61 years old, died Wednesday, December 22, at her home in the Messer community. Funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Whitley.

Mrs. Susan C. Babb Is Buried at Grant

Funeral services for Mrs. Susan C. Babb, 83 years old, were conducted Thursday, December 21, by the Rev. S.F. Young, in the Methodist church at Grant. Burial was in the Grant cemettery [sic].
Mrs. Babb is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Manton Nelson, of Grant; Mrs. T.A. Marbut, of Hugo, and Mrs. Barney Bush, of Monett, Missouri. Three sons survive also: Jack Babb, of Grant; H.A. Babb, of Hugo, and Charles Babb, of Amarillo, Texas.
Arrangements were under direction of the Snow Funeral home.
Funeral Saturday for Mrs. Myrtle O’Kieff

Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle O’Keiff, aged 31, of Fort Towson, who died New Years Day, were conducted January 2 at the Baptist church in Fort Towson by the Rev. Mr. McClure, of Valliant. Burial was in the Fort Towson cemetery.
Mrs. O’Keiff is survived by her husband, J.H. O’Keiff, of Fort Towson, and two children; her parents, who live in Fort Towson; two brother Homer and James Davis, of Fort Towson, and two sisters, Mrs. Mose [sic] Cundiff and Mrs. Laura Stephenson, both of Hugo.
Funeral arrangements were directed by the Snow Funeral home.

Infant Daughter of Grant Couple Buried Tuesday

Betty June Smith, seven-month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith, of Grant, died Monday afternoon at her parents’ home.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. H.F. Geib, of Hugo, grandparents also survive.

Death Of Mrs. Susan Riggs
The Soper Democrat October 23, 1930 – transcribed by Ron Henson
Mrs. Susan Riggs, aged about 30, died at the home of her mother last Thursday evening, following a lingering illness of typhoid fever, which terminated fatally when she was stricken with pneumonia.
Funeral services were held at the Soper Baptist church Friday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. M.A. Pillars. Burial was in the Soper cemetery.
Mrs. Riggs was born in the Roebuck community and has resided there all her life. She has been living with her mother, Mrs. Nancy Roebuck, since the death of her husband, Earl Riggs, who died several years ago. She is survived by a son, Jodie, about 9 years of age.
R.E. Shockley Dies In Car Wreck
The Soper Democrat October 16, 1930 – transcribed by Ron Henson
R.E. Shockley, aged about 44 years, of the Ellis Chapel community southeast of Soper, was instantly killed when the car in which he was riding turned over into a creek near the Antlers ball park at an early hour Sunday morning. Shockley was pinned.
B.B. Burrough, Soper deputy sheriff, who was driving the car, escaped with minor injuries and cuts when the car left the road and turned over into the creek. He managed to get out of the wreckage and walked back to Antlers for help.
A daughter of Shockley had left home and he had enlisted the aid of Mr. Burrough to help locate her. Reports were that she had been heard of at Antlers and they went there to look for her. They were unable to locate her that night so started home. In some manner the steering gear of Mr. Burrough’s car failed and the car left the road, going down a steep embankment and turning over in the creek.
Mr. Shockley’s body was prepared for burial and was brought back to Soper where he was buried Monday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church, Rev. J.D. Brannon, officiating.
Mr. Shockley is survived by his wife and several children.
Ode Edge Died Last Wednesday

Ode Edge died at his home south of Unger on Wednesday, October 29th at 10 o’clock, P.M. Burial was had in the Boswell cemetery Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock, services being conducted by Rev. J.D. Brannon, pastor of the Soper Baptist Church.
Mr. Edge was shot about a month ago with a shot gun. Walker Higginbotham is alleged to have done the shooting. He was arrested shortly after the shooting and charged with assault with intent to kill. Since Edge’s death the charged [sic] has been changed to murder.
The shooting was the result officers stated, of Edge’s remonstrating with Higginbotham about his treatment of his wife, who is Mr. Edge’s niece. After some discussion, it is alleged that Higginbotham picked up a shot gun and began shooting at Edge. The shooting was at close range and many shots entered his body.
J.R. Waugh Dies At Home Southeast Of Soper Monday

J.R. Waugh, aged about 65 years, died at the family home several miles southeast of town Monday night, after a lingering illness. Burial was had in the Soper cemetery Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Ham, of Hugo.
Mr. Waugh had lived near Soper for many years and was a useful citizen, well liked by all.
Boyd Funeral Held Monday at Sawyer

Mrs. Sallie Boyd, age 67, died Monday afternoon at her home at Sawyer. Her funeral was conducted Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. Mr. McFarland. Burial was in the Springs Chapel cemetery.
Mrs. Boyd is survived by her husband, G.C. Boyd, and three children.

Funeral Monday for Howard Wood

Funeral services for Howard Wood, 21, were conducted Monday afternoon at the Woodtown cemetery. His death occurred in a recent automobile accident near Dallas, Texas.
Mr. Wood was a son of the late John Wood, Choctaw county resident.
Funeral Sunday for J.M. Derryberry

Funeral services for J.M. Derryberry, 60-year old Fort Towson resident who died Saturday, were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Fort Towson cemetery.
Surviving relatives of Mr. Derryberry include his widow and several children.

Funeral services for Mrs. Della Hendley, 39, of Fort Towson, who died Tuesday in a Paris, Texas, hospital, where she had been taken for treatment, were conducted Wednesday afternoon. Burial was in the Valliant cemetery.
Surviving relatives include Mrs. Hendley’s husband, eight children, and her mother, Mrs. Margaret Roberts, of Fort Towson.
Arrangements were directed by the Snow Funeral home.
Mrs. Mary Buchanan Dies at Spencerville

Mrs. Mary E. Buchanan, of Spencerville, died Wednesday morning following a brief illness with blood poisoning. Her funeral was conducted Wednesday afternoon by the Rev. Mr. Wright, of Spencerville.
Mrs. Buchanan is survived by her husband and several children.

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Little, 75 years old, were conducted Saturday in Fort Towson, following her death the previous day. Burial was in the Swink cemetery.
Mrs. Little had made her home in Swink for some time. She was born in Arkansas. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. R.J. Swink, of Swink.

Kent Woman Survived by Husband and 12 Children

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Newell McGinnis, 64 years old, who died Saturday at her home at Kent, were conducted Sunday afternoon by the Rev. Ernest Quick, pastor of the First Baptist church of Hugo. Burial was in the Soper cemetery.
The funeral service was attended by large numbers of friends of Mrs. McGinnis from her own and adjoining communities and from out-of-state points.
Mrs. McGinnis had been in ill health for some time. She was a native of Givens, Texas. Forty-five years ago she was married to J.N. McGinnis, who with 12 children, survives her. She had been a resident of Kent since 1900.
Surviving relatives include Mr. McGinnis and children; Mrs. Steve Reed, of Hugo; Rude and John McGinnis, of Portland, Oregon; Leo, Pete and Robert McGinnis and Mrs. Lucy McCobb, of California; Mrs. Marie Shelton, of Abilene, Texas; Mrs. Dallas Harmon, of Ada; Marvin, Vera and Catherine McGinnis, of Kent. A sister and two brothers also survive; Miss Mary Givens and J.D. Given, of Paris, Texas, and Bass Givens, of Snyder, Texas.

Funeral services for Mrs. Inez Fairchild, 77, were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Central Church of Christ by Elder R.M. Price. Burial was in the Soper cemetery.
Mrs. Fairchild’s death occurred Monday at her home at Forney. She is survived by several sons and daughters.

Mrs. Harrington is survived by her husband, W.H. Harrington.

Charles W. Morehead Buried Here Tuesday

Charles Wesley Morehead, aged 74, died Monday at his home at Boswell. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday in the chapel of the Senner Funeral home. Burial was in the Springs Chapel cemetery.
Mr. Morehead came to Oklahoma from Mississippi a number of years ago.
Funeral Thursday for Aged Soper Man

Funeral services for George Johnson, 84, were conducted from his home in Soper Thursday afternoon. Burial was in the Sugar Creek cemetery near Soper.

Fort Towson Woman Dies in Paris Hopital [sic]

Mrs. Inez Creasy, 27-year old resident of Fort Towson, died in a Paris, Texas, hospital Tuesday. Her funeral was conducted Wednesday by the Rev. G.H. Garrison in the Methodist church at Fort Towson.
Mrs. Creasy was born at Swink in 1904, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Coker, who make their home now in Fort Towson. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband and two children, Billie Jean and Willie Henry Robinson; three sisters, and two brothers; Mrs. W.J. Massey, of Dallas, Texas; Misses Lucille and Della Coker and Bill Coker, of Fort Towson, and Orville Coker, of Dallas, Texas.

Joel Alder Funeral Is Held Here Wednesday

Joel Alder, 74, died Tuesday at his home here and was buried Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. Ernest Quick, pastor of the First Baptist church conducted the funeral service. Mr. Alder had been a resident of this section for a number of years.
Surviving relatives include Mrs. Alder, a son and a daughter. Burial was in Mount Olivet cemetery.

The funeral of Mrs. Sarah Jane Jones, 86-year old resident of Spencerville, was conducted Saturday morning by the Rev. Mr. Clark, pastor of a Spencerville church. Burial was in the cemetery in that community. Her death occurred after a two-week illness.
Mrs. Jones had made her home in Choctaw county for a number of years. She is survived by a son and daughter, both of Spencerville.
Funeral arrangements were directed by the Snow Funeral home.
Mrs. G.W. Crowder Buried Wednesday

Funeral of Mrs. G.W. Crowder, 63, who died at her home in Boswell Tuesday, was conducted Wednesday by the Rev. W.W. Moran. Burial was in the Crowder Springs cemetery.
Mrs. Crowder, who was a native of Mississippi, is survived by her husband, G.W. Crowder and several children.

Heart Attack Fatal to Spencerville Woman

Miss Bernice Young, 18 year old resident of the Spencerville community, died Sunday following a heart attack. The Rev. Mr. McGraw conducted her funeral service Monday from the family home. Burial was in the Spencerville cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Senner morticians.
Funeral Sunday for Mrs. Harry Duncan
The Southeast Oklahoman March 24 [?], 1932 – transcribed by Ron Henson
Mrs. Viola Lee Duncan, age 56, died Saturday at her home in Boswell after a brief attack of pneumonia. The Rev. Ernest Quick, pastor of the First Baptist church of Hugo, conducted her funeral service Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian church in Boswell. Burial was in the cemetery at Boswell.
Mrs. Duncan was born in North Calorina [sic] in 1875. She had a wide acquaintance in Choctaw county where she had lived for years.
Surviving relatives include Mrs. Duncan’s husband, T.H. Duncan, and three children: "Cap" Duncan, of Hugo; Miss Ada Duncan and J.B. Duncan, of Boswell.

Funeral Friday for Miss I.V. Stephenson

Funeral services for Miss I.V. Stephenson, age 16, were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Young, of Grant, following her death Friday morning at her home in the Frogville community. Burial was in the Shoals cemetery.
Miss Stephenson is survived by a sister and two brothers, J.B. and Will Stephenson, of Frogville.
