Mrs. T.W. Tyler

Funeral for Mrs. Tyler Held Friday

    Funeral services for Mrs. T.W. Tyler were held in the Coffey Funeral home chapel Friday morning, eleven o’clock. Rev. J.B. Ward and Dr. J.F. Murrell officiated. Interment followed in Mt. Olivet.
    Mrs. Tyler died at her home on East Kirk street Wednesday following a long illness.
    She is survived by two sons, Walter Tyler, Hugo and Virgil Tyler, Baxter Springs, Kans., one brother Avery Stewart, Long Beach Calif., and three sisters Mrs. Fannie Corley and Mrs. Leve Burris, Soper and Mrs. W.L. Allen, Anadarko, Oklahoma all of whom were present at the services.
    Bearers were H.M. Pardue, Bob Warren, D.A. Stovall, Roy Johnson, Ben Dean and W.E. Schooler.


Thomas Bradshaw

Thomas Bradshaw Died Yesterday

    Mr. Thomas H. Bradshaw, 88, passed away in his home at 504 S. G Street, yesterday evening at 6:30.
    Born in Benton, Arkansas, April 16th, 1859, Mr. Bradshaw had lived in Hugo for the past 47 years coming here from Texas. He was a retired farmer.
    Funeral services will be at the Wesley Methodist church tomorrow afternoon at 2:30, with Rev. C.A. Booth presiding.
    Interment will be at Mt. Olivet cemetery. Pall bearers will be Jim Cross, W.M. McBee, Shad Dickinson, W.W. Jordan, J.S. Persons, Pete Knox and Jim Means.
    Mr. Bradshaw is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Fannie G. Breecheen of Hugo and three sons Grover C. Bradshaw of Hugo, Andrew W. Bradshaw of Salias, California and Guy Bradshaw of Boswell. Mr. Bradshaw and his wife who preceded him in death, have 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 51 great-great-grandchildren.


Myrtle Cawthorne

Mrs. Cawthorne Dies in Ark. Home
The Husonian Democrat April 15, 1948 – transcribed by Ron Henson

    Mrs. Myrtle Cawthorne, daughter of J.W. King pioneer resident of Hugo and member of the city council, died at her home in Camden, Arkansas Wednesday.
    Funeral services were held this afternoon at three o’clock and interment was in the Camden cemetery.
    The announcement of her death came as a complete surprise to her father and Mrs. King as they had not been advised of her serious illness.
    Her husband, Morris Cawthorne, was employed by the express company here for some time but was later on the police force.
    She is survived by her husband and two sons. Richard 27 and Billie 24 and one grandson all residents of Camden.
    Mr. King was not able to attend the funeral services on account of illness.


Alice Cohen

Alice A. Cohen Funeral Friday

    Mrs. Alice A. Cohen, 61, of Route 3, Boswell, passed away in her home at 4:30 p.m. April 8th.
    Born in Hunt County, Arkansas August 14, 1886. Mrs. Cohen moved to Boswell 19 years ago from Stringtown, Oklahoma.
    Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Boswell Baptist church with Dr. J.F. Murrell of Hugo officiating. Mrs. Cohen had belonged to the Baptist church for 56 years. Interment will be at the Boswell cemetery.
    She is survived by one brother, Bob Moore of LaVerne, Okla., and fifteen orphan children whom she had raised during her lifetime.

Payne Infant Buried Monday

    An infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Payne was buried in Springs Chapel cemetery Monday.
    The child was born April 12 and passed away April 12. Coffey Funeral home was in charge of funeral services.


Nettie Jackson

Funeral for Mrs. Jackson Tuesday

    Funeral services for Mrs. Nettie Jackson were held in the First Baptist church in Valliant at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. Services was under the direction of the Coffey funeral home. Burial will be in the Valliant cemetery.
    Mrs. Jackson formerly of Fort Towson and Valliant died in a Fort Worth hospital last Thursday night.
    She is survived by seven children. They are Earl Jackson, Hugo, Mrs. Mabel Jones, Calera, Okla., Jim Jackson, Los Angeles, Mrs. Mildred Julian, Borger, Texas, Dariah Jackson, Tucson, Ariz., Charlie Jackson, Grand Coulee, Wash., Robert Jackson, Los Angeles.
    She is also survived by eight grand children.


Oren W. Castleman

Castleman Funeral Was Held Saturday

    Funeral services for Oren W. Castleman was held in the Clayton Avenue Baptist church Saturday but the time had not been announced.
    Funeral services were conducted by Rev. N.M. McFarland who was assisted by Rev. J.B. Ward. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet.
    Mr. Castleman was killed in a truck accident at Apache Creek New Mexico on April 10 but no details have been received by the News.
    Survivors are his wife, Iva Marie, his father J.S. Castleman, three sons, Milton Ray, 7, Joe Hall, 5, and Larry Wayne, sixteen months.
    He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters, Lewis Castleman, Hugo, Ernest C. Castleman, Beardstown, Texas, Mrs. Buscom Britt, Hugo Mrs. Lillie Doffs, Mrs. J.C. Horne, Miss Ann L. Castleman and Mrs. E. Whitson.
    Funeral services will be directed by the Coffey Funeral home.


William A. Kell

William A. Kell Dies In Grant

    Mr. William A. Kell, Route 1, Grant, Oklahoma, died Mon. night at his home. Born February 21, 1874, in Missouri, Mr. Kell had lived in Grant for the past 9 years, moving there from Sawyer.
    Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 in the Grant Cemetery, with Rev. Clark of the Holiness Church there officiating. Interment was in the Grant Cemetery.
    Mr. Kell is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clara Kell, three daughters, Mrs. Oscar Payton, San Jose, Cal., Mrs. Cleveland Davis, Poteau, Okla., and Mrs. Arthur Fredien, of Hugo, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


William T. Tillery

Funeral for Boswell Man Friday P.M.

    Funeral services for William T. Tillery, will be held in the Baptist church in Boswell Friday afternoon at three o’clock. Burial will be in the Boswell cemetery.
    Mr. Tillery was born in Arkansas forty two years ago but had resided in the Boswell community for the past eight years. He died Tuesday afternoon at his home two miles west of Boswell.
    He is survived by his wife and the following brothers and sisters, Mrs. Rhoda Bollin and Mrs. Mary Bollin, of Kans., Mrs. Berdie [?] Keylon of California, Mrs. Deborah [?] Keylon, Boswell, Mrs. Incogn{?] Tillary, Harmon Tillery, whose address was not given, Cecil Tillery, of South American, and J.M. Tillary of California.
    Bearers will be D. Pierce, Elmer Pierce, LeRoy Pieron, W.D. Pierce and Sam Pierce.
    The funeral services will be directed by the Coffey Funeral home.


Gladys King

Woman Dies From A Heart Attack

    A negro woman was found dead of heart attack by her son this morning in their home on W. Main St.
    Gladys King passed away about 6:30 this morning, according to Dr. J.D. Moore, who had been treating her for heart trouble, and who examined her this morning.
    Gilbert Butler, who rooms in the house with the deceased, saw her alive this morning at 4:30 when he left for work. About 8:00 a.m., her son came into her bedroom and discovered she was dead. He summoned Mabel Smith, who in turn called Dr. Moore.
    The doctor examined her a little after 8:30 and said she had been dead about 2 hours.


Hugh Washingon. Wallace

H.W. Wallace Died At His Home Early Thursday Morning

    H.W. Wallace, pioneer resident, died at his home, 602 East Bluff street early Thursday morning. He had not been feeling well for some time but was able to do the usual chores around his home Wednesday.
    His passing was not known until about five o’clock this morning. Mrs. Wallace says that she heard him up about midnight but there was no indication that he was ill. Death came while he was sleeping.
    Hugh Washington Wallace was born in Lennius, Texas, October 1, 1872 and was married to Miss Emma Braswell, also of Lannius, on July 14, 1889. They moved to and established their home in Hugo in 1908 and for many years Mr. Wallace was an employee of the R.V. Womack Mercantile Co.
    In 1909 they purchased their home on East Bluff street and have resided there since that time.
    He is survived by his wife and the following children, Hearon Wallace, Berkely, Calif. Mrs. Douglas Acker, Hugo, Mrs. H.P. Hearn Dallas, Mrs. Sam Nelson, Soper. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Pat Acker, Hugo and Hosey Hugh Hearn, Dallas.
    Mr. Wallace was one of the best known and highly honored citizens of Hugo. During his long residence here he made many warm friends. He was a life long member of the Methodist church and a member of the Hugo church since establishing residence here.
    Funeral services will be held in the First Methodist church at four o’clock Friday afternoon. Rev. Fowler will officiate and the arrangements will under the direction of the Campbell Funeral home.
    Bearers will be, Lee Loftin, Dale Eddleman, Gene Shelton, E.M. DeWeese, Wheeler Leard, and H.M. Pardue.
    Honorary bearers will be the members of the Sunday school class that Mr. Wallace was a member and J.H. Stell.


Martha Frances Alder

    Mrs. Martha Frances Alder passed away in her home at 511 E. Central Sunday at 11:00 p.m.
    Born in Lawson, Mo., May 16, 1870, Mrs. Alder had been a resident of Hugo for 31 ˝ years.
    Funeral services was held in the First Baptist church Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. J.F. Murrell officiating. Interment was in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
    Pall bearers were W.P. Brooks, C.D. Brockman, V.C. Stiefer, Ambler Chambliss, Frank Caldwell and Wallace Diffie.
    Mrs. Alder is survived by one daughter, Miss Mary Frances Alder, Hugo, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Zula Alder, Shawnee, two sisters, Mrs. Maude Gossage and Mrs. Bell Fields, both or Richmond, Mo. And seven grandchild [obit ends]


Mrs. J.M. Sanders

Mrs. J.M. Sanders Dies at Home of Daughter in N.Y.

    W.N. Sanders received a message from his sister Mrs. A.W. Thomas, advising him that his mother Mrs. J.M. Sanders had passed away at her home in Tuckabee, N.Y., Thursday afternoon
    Mr. Sanders received a message several days ago telling him that his mother was gravely ill and little hope was entertained for her recovery.
    She was born in Arkansas seventy seven years ago but resided in Hugo for more than twenty five years prior to the death of her husband, J.M. Sanders well known stock farmer here.
    She is survived by the following children. Mrs. Thomas, Tuckabee, N.Y., W.N. Sanders, Hugo, J.C. Sanders, San Diego, Calif., George Sanders, Big Bear Lake, Calif., Monette Sanders, Atlanta, Ga., T.T. Sanders, Olympia, Wash., Mrs. Mary Scroggins, Los Angeles, California and C.W. Sanders, Seattle, Washington.
    The body is expected to arrive Sunday and burial will be in the family plot in the Dennison cemetery in Idabel, funeral arrangements have not been completed according to an announcement from the Coffey Funeral home who will be in charge.
