Final Rites Held For A.M. Patton

    Funeral services for A.M. Patton, Frisco roundhouse employee who died suddenly from a heart attack late Monday afternoon, were held at 3 o'clock today in the Church of Christ.
    R.L. Cook, minister from Paris officiated at the services and was assisted by Leon Savage, local minister. Interment was in Mt. Olivet cemetery with Campbell's Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
    Pallbearers at the services were Wilfred Cooley, Henry German, Chester Cearley, S.T. Webb, Ed Johnson and J.S. Persons.

A.M. Patton Dies Suddenly at Home

    Arthur Milton Patton, a Hugo resident since 1909 who was employed at the Frisco roundhouse, died suddenly from a heart attack while engaged in domestic work at his home about 5:20 p.m. Monday.
    Mr. Patton had just staked out his cow and had returned to the house for his horse when struck by the attack. He was discovered by his son-in-law, Pete Knox, and rushed to the Johnson Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
    Services are tentatively scheduled to be held Thursday afternoon at the Church of Christ with Leon Savage, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery with Campbell's Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
    Mr. Patton is survived by his wife, Mrs. Etta Leona Patton; one daughter, Mrs. Pete Knox, Hugo; one son, Leo Patton, Los Angeles, Calif.; five brothers, Calhoun, Woodward and Rainey Patton of Bogata, Texas; Albert Patton of Altus, and Jack Patton of Los Angeles, Calif; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    He was born at Clarksville, Tex. on June 20, 1883. At the age of 18 he was joined in marriage to Miss Etta Leona Purcell at Clarksville. Before his employment by the Frisco railroad about 15 years ago he had worked for the Public Service Company.


Ben F. Mann

Services Set Boswell Farmer

    Funeral services for Be F. Mann, retired Boswell farmer who died in his home at 3:30 a.m. today, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Goodland cemetery.
    Rev. J.B. Ward, pastor of the Clayton Avenue Baptist church, will officiate and arrangements will be in charge of Coffey Funeral home.
    Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Delie Mann; two daughters, Mrs. Beulah Akins of Bishop, Calif, and Mrs. Suzie Owens, Boswell; one son, Elbert Mann of Bishop, Cal.; four step-children, Mrs. Allie Calfy of Walters, and Mrs. Lizzie Roden, Mrs. Thelma Shelton and Riley Wall, all of California; ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
    Mr. Mann was born in Alabama on May 23, 1869, and had resided in and around Hugo for the past 60 years.


Sara Jane Jackson

Spencerville Lady Dies, Services Set

    A resident in the Spencerville community the past 25 years, Mrs. Sara Jane Jackson, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Florence Wright. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Johnson in the family home at 11 a.m. Thursday and interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery with Coffey Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
    She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Wright of Spencerville, Mrs. Martha Cantrell of Logan, N.M., Mrs. Mary Ann Yarbrough of Carlsbad, N.M. and Mrs. Ivoria Griffin of Weathers, Okla.; two sons, W.H. Jackson of California and D.A. Jackson of Fairview, Okla.; one brother, Richard Jones of DeQueen, Ark.; one sister, Mrs. Malanda Keith, Bismarck, Ark., and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Mrs. Jackson was born in Hot Springs, Ark., on August 2, 1857.


Daisy Jones

Mrs. Jones Rites Are Set For Thurs.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Daisy Jones, who passed away last Friday at the home of a son in San Pedro, Calif., will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Soper Baptist church.
    Rev. I.L. Collier and Rev. J.D. Clarkson will conduct the services and interment will be in the Soper cemetery with Campbell's Funeral home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Fred Maloney, Odie Cooper, Neil Butler, Wiley Hamock, W.E. Larecy and W.F. Baker.
    She is survived by one son, Glenn Jones, San Pedro; one daughter, Mrs. Paul Harris, also of San Pedro; and two grandchildren.
    Daisy Ludina Butler Jones was born in Westport, Carrol county, Tenn., on June 30, 1891. She was married to Clayton Jones on May 10, 1916, in Soper. To this union three children were born, one dying in infancy.
    Mrs. Jones lived most of her life in Soper. She united with the Baptist church at the age of 16.


Jim M. Calder

Jim M. Calder Died Tuesday Night. Ill For Several Years

    Jim M. Calder, well known pioneer resident, died at his farm home south of Hugo at 7:45 Tuesday night following an illness of eight years.
    Funeral announcement will not be made until word is received from relatives who reside in other states, according to the Senner Funeral home, who will be in charge.
    Mr. Calder came from Texas to what is now Oklahoma fifty years ago and has resided in this section since that time. He was born in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Feb. 15, 1870, and had been a farmer most of his long life.
    He is survived by his wife and the following children; James Calder, Mrs. Arthur Smith, Mrs. Richard Shelton, Mrs. Jim Rankin, J.P. Calder, of Hugo, Johnnie Calder of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Tom Young Mecca, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Mattie Evans of Hugo.
    Ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren survive. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. McFarland and burial will be in Mt Olivet.
    Mrs. Calder was one of the first white men to move to the Indian Territory and numbered his friends by all who knew him.
    We join the friends in extending condolence in the passing of this pioneer citizen.


Fannie Caroline Holt

Services Set For Mrs. Fannie Holt

    Mrs. Fannie Caroline Holt, Hugo resident for the past 38 years, passed away after a lengthy illness at 6:30 p.m. Monday at her home, 509 South Second street.
    Funeral services will be conducted in the Church of Christ here at 10 a.m. Wednesday with W.W. Starnes, minister of the Idabel Church of Christ, officiating. Leon Savage, Hugo minister, will assist. Burial will be in the Springs Chapel cemetery with Coffey Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
    Pallbearers will be Lonnie Wright, Carl Hansen, Lee Kimbrough, Jim Bramlett, Don Caylor and Merle Evans.
    Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Gatha Clark of Clayton, Mrs. Addie Lee Spicer of Shreveport, La.; and Mrs. May Hauert of Fort Smith, Ark.; three sons, Roy L. Holt of Antlers, Noel T. Holt of Garfield, Ark., and Doke Holt of Shreveport, La.; and 21 grandchildren. Her husband, D.F. Holt, preceded her in death five years ago.
    Mrs. Holt was born on October 9, 1869, in Murphysboro, Tenn.


David N. Reynolds

Services Held for David N. Reynolds

    Funeral services for David Nimrod Reynolds, Hugo farmer for the past 39 years who died in his home on Route 1 at 7:10 a.m. Sunday, were conducted by Leon Savage in the Church of Christ at 2:30 p.m. Monday.
    Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Georgie Reynolds; two daughters, Mrs. Lois Roebuck and Mrs. Dora Coffman, both of Hugo; four sons, Sherman and James of Paris, Robert of Ojai, Calif., and Luther of Hugo; one sister, Mrs. Mollie Barnes, Ojai, Calif., and 10 grandchildren.
    Pallbearers at the services, under direction of Coffey Funeral home, were Clayton Ellis, Jack Glenn, Henry Glenn, David Coley, Grady Holton and Floyd Abernathy. Interment was in the Shoat Springs cemetery.
    Mr. Reynolds was born on Oct. 14, 1869, in Annona, Tex. He was a member of the Church of Christ.


Mary Elizabeth Crawley

Saturday Rites for Mrs. Mary Crawley

    Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Crawley, the oldest charter member of the First Christian church here who died at 8:30 a.m. Friday, will be conducted at 5 p.m. Saturday at her church by Rev. C.W. Werbin.
    Following the brief rites, the body will be shipped to Nashville, Ark., for interment. Coffey Funeral home will be in charge of arrangements.
    Mrs. Crawley came to Hugo in 1902 with her husband. He preceded her on July 27, 1937, two and a half years after they had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. She was born in Loderdale, County, Miss., on Sept. 21, 1863.
    Only one immediate relatives, Mrs. Addie Pope of Nashville, Ark who is a neice [sic], is known here.


Lon Ellis

Ellis Funeral to Be At Four Thursday

    Funeral services for Lon Ellis will be held in the First Methodist church at four o'clock Thursday afternoon. Burial will be in the Soper cemetery.
    The announcement has been made that a space in the church will be assigned to all of Mr. Ellis' colored friends who desire to attend.


Laura Josephine Luttrell

Fort Towson Rites For Mrs. Luttrell
The Hugo Daily News June 23, 1946 - transcribed by Ron Henson

    Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Josephine Luttrell, a resident in the Fort Towson community the past 25 years who died in her home at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, will be conducted at the Fort Towson cemetery at 4 p.m. Sunday. Coffey Funeral home will be in charge of arrangements.
    Mrs. Luttrell, 64, is survived by her husband, Albert Luttrell, farmer; three daughters, Mrs. Laurence Brandon and Mrs. Fay Wafford, both of Wright City, and Opal Luttrell, Fort Towson; two sons Odeos Luttrell of Eagle, Idaho, and Ralph Luttrell, Fort Towson; two brothers, Bill Burley of Broken Bow, and Jim Burley of Buckeye, Ariz., and ten grandchildren.
    Mrs. Luttrell was born in  Prescott, Ar. She made her home a mile west and one and half miles north of Fort Towson the past 25 years.


Charles Robert Noble

Ft. Towson Resident Died This Afternoon

    Charles Robert Noble, well known resident of Ft. Towson, died at his home in that city at 1:30 this afternoon. Funeral services will be held in the Baptist church in Ft. Towson Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock with Rev. Charles Ray officiating and Coffey Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
    Mr. Noble was born in Weatherford, Texas, April 13, 1887, and had resided in Ft. Towson for the past thirty-five years, coming to that city from Pushmataha county.
    He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bertha Noble and two sons, Raymond Noble and B.R. Noble, all of Ft. Towson, and a daughter Mrs. Norvell Himes of Dallas.
    Two sisters also survive, Mrs. Bertha Jewell, Chickasha, Okla., and Mrs. Lille Holloway of Fort Worth, Texas.
