Funeral services for James Miller Allen of Strasburg, N.D., formerly of the Valliant and Sobol areas, were held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2004, at the Rattan Church of Christ with Van Newton officiating. Burial was in Sobol Cemetery.
Mr. Allen died May 8, 2004, in Strasburg, N.D. He was 70.
James M. Allen was born January 24, 1934 in Ft. Towson to Earl and Ethel Allen. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a carpenter and master woodworker. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Fayrene in 1992.
He is survived by two sons, Stephen Allen of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Randal Allen of Herreid, S.D.; two sisters, Earlene Smith and Sara Turner, both of Longview, Texas.

Graveside services for Fannie (Nuddie) McDaniel were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Springs Chapel Cemetery in Hugo, with Rev. Linda Wilson officiating.
Mrs. McDaniel died Monday, May 10, 2004, in Hugo. She was 86.
Fannie was born on July 2, 1919 in Seminole to Will and Edna (Davis) Morrison. She first married Ed Hunt, then Orville McDaniel. Fannie had lived in Hugo for the past 32 years having moved here from Clinton, Okla. She was a housewife. She was preceded in death by both her husbands, one son, Billy Hunt, three brothers, one grandson and one stepson.
She is survived by one son, William Hunt of Phoenix; two daughters, Rosie Gibson of Lone Grove and Betty Gibson of Corinne; two brothers, Deburt and Joe Morrison of Pauls Valley; three sisters, Roxie McGee of Pauls Valley, Linda Childs of South Carolina and Pearl Wortham of California; 14 grandchildren and several step grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and several step great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and several ste [sic] great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Merlin (Moley) Branton of Antlers were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel in Hugo with Reverend Skip Perkins officiating. Interment was in Sugar Creek Cemetery in Soper.
Mr. Branton died Monday, May 10, 2004 in Antlers. He was 85.
Merlin P. Branton was born on November 12, 1918 in Sugar Creek, Okla., to Horace Jefferson and Clara Ellen (Bailey) Branton. He married Margaret Ellen Orr on May 18, 1946 in Hugo. Merlin had lived all his life in the Kent community and was a farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Wesley Branton, a daughter Louise Branton, three brothers, Wayne, Glen and Gayle, and two sisters, Retha Lane and Altha Gurley.
He is survived by his wife Margaret of the home, four sons, Robert of Kent, Randal and wife Cindy of Hugo, Ronald and wife Dona of Antlers, Roland and wife Joann of Kent; five daughters, Lenore Ruth Branton of Kent, Lagail and husband Winston Arnold of Farris, Louellen and husband Jim McCaul of Mound, Minn., Loretta and husband Leonard Petsch of Kaufman, Texas, Lanetta and husband Sy Westmoreland of Kent; one brother, Joe Branton of Hugo; one sister, Joyce Smith of Soper; one sister-in-law, Jean Branton of Antlers; 18 grandchildren, Alexander Arnold,

Mrs. Lester died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, in Hugo. She was 41.
Sherma was born on October 27, 1962 in Hugo, Oklahoma, to Sherman and Sandra (Kilgore) Campbell. She was a member of the First Christian Church. Sherma married Donnie Lester in Hugo on March 10, 1982. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents. Sherma was assistant vice president and executive assistant of Security First National Bank in Hugo. She was a great lady, good friend to many people, and a loving mother, wife and daughter. Sherma will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband Donnie; one son, Craig Lester and wife Shelly of Blossom, Texas; her daughter Katelyn Don of the home in Hugo; her parents Sherman and Sandra Campbell of Hugo; many friends and loved ones.

Funeral services for Annie Brewer of Hugo will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Miller & Miller Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo.
Mrs. Brewer died May 15, 2004, at her home. She was 101. She was a homemaker and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Hugo.
She was born July 21, 1902 in Mississippi, the daughter of Elijah Lee Sanders and Bell (Wrenn) Sanders and had lived in Hugo since 1975. She married Hayden J. Brewer on April 16, 1921 in Hugo. He preceded her in death in 1981. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons: James L. Brewer and Coy Brewer; one daughter: Pauline Spills; three brothers, five sisters, and three grandchildren.
Surviving relatives: five sons, Roy Brewer of DesMoines, Wash., Jerry Don Brewer of Portland, Ore., Kenneth Joe Brewer of Hugo, Hayden J. Brewer, Jr., of Abernathy, Tenn., and Clydean Brewer of Whiteville, Tenn.; four daughters, Peggy Smith of Union, Ore., Ann Cahill of Denison, Texas, Charlene Crober of Sweet Home, Ore., and Maurine McCown of Lubbock, Texas; 23 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rushin died Saturday, May 15, 2004, in Grant. She was 62.
Loretta was born on December 15, 1941 in Albuquerque, N.M., to Roy Jesse Wilfong and Mamie (Spain) Wilfong. She married Leon Rushin on July 10, 1958 in Halfway, Texas. In 1977 she moved to this community from West Texas.
Loretta was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and centered her life around her family and friends. She was a beaming ray of life to all those she loved. We will cherish and love her for eternity. She will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mamie Wilfong and one sister, Brenda Sue Gaither.
She is survived by her husband, Leon of the home; four sons, Nickey Rushin and wife, Nancy of Ft. Graveside services for A.J. Bowlin of Hugo, formerly of Tulsa, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa with Rev. Derrel Harris Jr. officiating.
Mr. Bowlin died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Choctaw Memorial Hospital in Hugo. He was 92.
A.J. Bowlin was born November 1, 1911 in Enid, Okla. He married Mildred Pauline Cox in January 1932 in Jenks, Okla. He lived in Tulsa most all his life until moving to Hugo about four years ago to be near family. He graduated from Tulsa University in 1933 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He was employed by Carter Oil Company, which became Jersey Production Company, which became EXXON-Mobil, for 20 years before retiring. He was a member of the Sheridan Christian Center in Tulsa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred on May 13, 1990.
Surviving relatives: son & daughter-in-law: David & Doris Bowlin of Hugo; daughter & son-in-law: Patricia Ann & Jerry Hanshaw of Broken Arrow; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren.

Ada Hammons was born June 20, 1916 in Marlow, Okla., the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Wade and Myrtle Elizabeth (Hopkins) Wade. Ada was a homemaker for her family and has lived northwest of Ft. Towson since 1964. She was married to Rev. Lonnie W. Hammons March 1, 1941 in Shawnee, Okla., and he preceded her in death in 1972. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother: Paul Wade; one sister: Margie Wade; and four grandchildren.

Joleane Hooker was born January 14, 1939 in Roswell, N.M. the daughter of Clifton & Laverne (Henry) Busby. She was raised in Antlers and has lived in Rattan for the past 28 years. She worked many years at the local Cafe and the Rattan Post Office. She married Jesse F. Hooker on September 10, 1956 in Antlers. She was preceded in death by one son: Ronny Hooker in 1977; 1 grandson: Jason Hooker this past month; 2 brothers: Roy Busby and Pete Busby; one sister: Francis Rard.
Surviving relatives include her husband: Jesse F. Hooker of the home; One Son & daughter-in-law: Jonathan & Tammy Hooker of Soper; Sister: Ruth Rameriz of California; three Grandchildren.

She was born January 21, 1937 in Poseyville, Ind., to Wayne and Majorie Newman. She was secretary and treasurer of Dickerson Propane for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services for Virgil Leonard "Pappy" Bex of Hugo were held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2004, at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Shawn Robertson officiating.
Mr. Bex died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, in Muskogee. He was 75.
Virgil was born on February 22, 1929 in Douglas, Ariz., to John Henry and Sibley Lucille (Franlin) Bex. He lived most of his life in Arizona, moving to this community a year ago to be near his daughter. He worked as a welder and mechanic. "Pappy" was an original cowboy. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Linda (Bex) Wheeler and four grandchildren.
Pappy is survived by one daughter, Carol Moseley of the home in Hugo; six sons, Thomas Bex of Georgia, Larry & Gary Weeks both of Arizona, Bobby, Rick & Mike Weeks of Nevada; numerous grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

Thelma Iola (Balch) Simpson, 95, died Tuesday, May 18, in Norman. Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 22, at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel, with grandson, Reverend Eric Snyder and First Baptist Church Senior Adult minister Vickie Riggs officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery in Boswell, Oklahoma. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Christian Sieck, Mark Hollingshead, and Tom Bishop, all of Norman, who took such good care of her for so many years.
Mrs. Simpson was born February 19, 1909, in Soper, Oklahoma, to Alexander Benson and Carrye (Hartgraves) Balch.
Mrs. Simpson graduated from Soper High School, where she was salutatorian of her senior class and played on the basketball team. She received an award for the past several years as the oldest graduate attending the reunion of her high school. She also graduated from Southeastern State (Teacher's) College and attended the University of Oklahoma. She did student teaching at the University of Oklahoma Laboratory School. Mrs. Simpson had a varied work history. She taught school at Nelson in southeastern Oklahoma. She worked at Tinker Air Force Base during
WWII as a radio repairman on B17 airplanes. She was secretary and bookkeeper for Buster Simpson Plumbing in Norman. She worked at the Norman Transcript Press for many years and retired from there. Mrs. Simpson was one of the first members of Trinity Baptist (then mission) Church of Norman and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Norman. She was one of the last surviving members of the Deborah Sunday School Class. She was a lifelong tither - in her later years giving her money directly to someone who needed it rather than through her church. She was active in her church choirs. In her later years she was a member of the Fellowship Singers Senior Adult Choir at First Baptist until she was no longer able to participate.
Mrs. Simpson traveled extensively with her husband and daughter in the United States, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Hong Kong, Mexico, Iran, and Canada. Mrs. Simpson was an avid sports fan, attending all of the University of Oklahoma football games (including bowl games) as long as she was physically able. She kept up (via TV and the Norman Transcript) with basketball, baseball, and football on the collegiate and professional level - especially the University of Oklahoma, Texas Rangers, and the Dallas Cowboys. Mrs. Simpson was a member of the Eastern Star of Norman. Family was always very important to Mrs. Simpson. She enjoyed visits from her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She had a talent and love for music, which she passed on to family members.
Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Buster Simpson; brother, Alexander Benson Balch, Junior; sisters, Mary Ellen Balch Markham and husband, Wyman; Doris Balch Patrick and husband, Pat; Anita Balch Atkinson and husband, W.A. Atkinson, Junior; brother-in-law, Harold Hawkins; and great-granddaughter, Sarah Protiva. She is survived by sister, Gladys Balch Hawkins of Hartford, Connecticut; sister-in-law, Ann Welchert Balch of Norman; son, Bernon Ben Simpson, of Moore; daughters, Nita Simpson Bill, of Santa Paula, California,
Dallas, Texas, and Norman; Ina Simpson Snyder, of Norman; son-in-law Les Snyder, of Norman; and cousin Annis Robinson, of Soper, Oklahoma. She is also survived by grandchildren, Burl Simpson, of Norman; Jacque Simpson Protiva and husband, Jim, of Texarkana, Texas; Bruce Simpson, of Phoenix, Arizona; Sergeant First Class Berry Simpson and wife, Gina, of Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio, Texas; Lester Sherman Snyder II and wife, Tanda, of Norman; Sean Simpson Snyder and wife, Sherri Jo, of Ardmore, Oklahoma; Reverend Eric Todd Snyder and wife, LeAnna
of Ft. Scott, Kansas; and Craig Fitzgerald Snyder, of Norman. In addition, she is survived by great-grandchildren, Bryan Simpson and wife Amy of Oklahoma City; Jonathan Protiva and Amy Protiva of Texarkana, Texas; Amanda Lairson and Levi Lairson, of Norman; Cody and Ashley Simpson, of San Antonio; Alex Hixson, of Norman; Jeremiah Willaim Snyder, of Norman; Mary Jo Snyder, of Ardmore; Jackson Tyler Snyder and Abigail Renee', of Fort Scott, Kansas. Mrs. Simpson will also be missed by numerous other family members and friends from throughout the United States.

Mr. Brisbois died May 22, 2004, in Paris, Texas. He was 79.
Mr. Brisbois was born November 9, 1924, in Fonda, Iowa, the son of John B. Brisbois and Gladys (Richmond) Brisbois and had lived most of his life in the Hugo area. He was a retired truck driver and a World War II Army veteran. He was of the Catholic faith; he was a member of the VFW, the DAV and the American Legion.

Mrs. Ellis died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, in Paris, Texas. She was 79.
Doris was born on January 23, 1925 in Hugo to Henry and Getrude (Cook) Bounds. She had lived in Hugo before moving to Paris, Texas. She was office manager for the Hugo Milling Company. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church in Paris, Texas. She married Austin Ellis in Atoka on July 20, 1941. She was preceded in death by her parents, a great granddaughter, a brother, James Bounds and a sister, Ruby Grayston.
Doris is survived by her husband, Austin of Paris, Texas; three sons, Ed, Jack and Jim Ellis, all of Paris, Texas; two daughters, Trudy Babb of Harker Heights, Texas, and Peggy Ross of Paris, Texas; one sister, Helen Jo Welch of Hugo; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Lewis Earl Capers of Whitesboro, Texas, were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Huff Funeral Chapel in Whitesboro with Rev. Joe Patterson and Rev. Mr. Capers died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman, Texas. He was 87.
Mr. Capers was born November 17, 1916 in Paris, Texas, to the late Thomas Alonzo Capers and Epsie Ladell Goodwin Capers. He married Vivian Elizabeth Craddock on December 7, 1935 in Calera. He was a retired cotton gin foreman and a member of the Lions Club and Central Baptist Church in Whitesboro, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Elizabeth Capers, son Billy Gene Capers, and a son in law, Jim Marbury.
He is survived by one son, David Capers of Chicota, Texas; six daughters, Margaret Drake of Meridian, Texas, Linda Pyle of Ralls, Texas, Remona Marbury of Whitesboro, Texas, Carlyon Darga of Detroit, Mich., Sandy Cathey of Carrollton, Texas, and Deborah McCullough of Ft. Towson; 25 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Etheredge died May 20, 2004. She was 75.
She was born December 31, 1928 in Konawa, Okla., to Eugene and Lucille Dutton Wano. She married Dick Etheredge in 1972 in Hugo. She was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. She was an active member of Clayton Avenue Baptist Church, where she played the piano.
She is survived by her husband Dick Etheredge of the home; one son, Raymond Fuller of Tuolumne, Calif.; two daughters, Reba Fuller of Tuolumne, Calif., and Renee Weberg of Forest Lake, Minn.; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary McCarty of Oklahoma City and Katherine Bishop of Sonora, Calif.; two brothers, Jerry Wano of Kansas City and Donald Wano of Stockton, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Horn died Saturday, May 22, 2004, in Idabel. She was 99.
Benton was born on August 17, 1904 in Little River Community, Arkansas, to Solomon Franklin and Helen Lester (Luster) Brown. She married Hubert Horn in Foreman, Arkansas, and was a homemaker and a member of the Wesley Methodist Church. She loved the Lord, and loved serving him in her church. She was a M.Y.F. teacher for many years and loved working with the young people. Her church and her church family was her life. She worked at Al Cherry's Dry Cleaners and Graham's Ready to Wear Store for a number of years, before retiring from the Goodland Home where she worked as a house parent for several years. She will truly be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Norman, Mac, Adler and John Brown; six sisters, Agnus Reaves, Dargil Buchanan, Gus Reeves, Mae Brown, Ova Benner and Ellen Humphreys.
She is survived by one son, Bill Horn and his wife Dee of Idabel; two daughters, Robbie Johanason and husband Gordon of Navarre, Fla., and Alice Teague and husband Joe of Goodland; twelve grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren and eighteen great-great-grandchildren.
There was a family visitation at the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Chapel in Hugo on Sunday evening, May 23, 2004, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Graveside services for Doris (Thompson) Reich of Hugo were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2004, in Springs Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Mutt Wallace officiating.
Mrs. Reich died May 20, 2004, at Hugo Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was 80. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
She was born July 25, 1923 in Grant, the daughter of James and Lilly Thompson, and had lived most of her life in Reno, Nev., prior to moving to Hugo approximately three years ago. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alvin E. Reich, and a son, Ron Reich.
Surviving relatives: One son, Don Reich of Las Vegas, Nev.; step mother, Daisy Thompson of Hugo; three brothers, Roy Thompson of Hugo, Harold Thompson of Hugo, and Billy Thompson of Soldotna, Alaska; one step sister, Georgia Bowlen of Hugo; several nieces and nephews.
Services under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home of Hugo.
Funeral services for Jeraldine O. Tims of Broken Bow were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2004, at Agape Bible Fellowship Church in Ft. Towson. Burial was in Hampton Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Tims died May 21, 2004. She was 53.
She married Silas Tims on January 9, 1965, in Ft. Towson. She was a member of Hampton Chapel United Methodist Church in Ft. Towson. She was a certified nurse's aide. She enjoyed making traditional Choctaw jewelry and watching her children play baseball and softball. She enjoyed going to gospel singings and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She had lived most of her life in Ft. Towson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Nora White; and one sister, Janette Boston.
Jeraldine leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Silas Tims of Broken Bow; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Israel and Leah Tims of Ft. Towson, Galen Tims of Broken Bow, Arnold Tims of Ft. Towson, Jerry and Marissa Tims of Hugo; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol and Chuck Compton of Broken Bow, Priscilla and Wayne Harris of Valliant, Victoria and Stacy Tims, both of Hugo; three sisters, Joyce Gonzales and JoAnn Wade, both of Broken Bow, Louise Taylor of Bethel; 16 grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
