Rev. Joe Ben Terry

Funeral services for Rev. Joe Ben Terry of Fort Towson were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2005, at Apostolic Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church in Hugo with Rev. Donald Lee officiating, assisted by Rev. David Cahill, Rev. J.D. Watson and Rev. Johnny Cheek. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Paris, Texas.
Rev. Terry died November 16, 2005, at Choctaw Memorial Hospital. He was 74.He was born March 5, 1931 in Paducah, Texas, the son of Andrew Garland “Jack” Terry and Mattie (Bailey) Terry. He married Gweneth “Nelle” Gentry on February 12, 1954 in Charleston, Texas. He was an ordained minister for 54 years affiliated with the United Pentecostal Church. During his ministry he built and pastored several churches. He pastored in Charleston, Texas, he built and pastored at Sulphur Springs, Texas, he pastored at White Settlement, Texas, and he built and pastored at Cooper, Texas and Hugo, Okla. He retired from pastoring in 1996 and became an evangelist. During retirement, he pastored the Antlers, Okla. church for one year. When he retired he built a home in Ft. Towson, Okla. where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Becky Terry and Alma Williams, one brother, A.G. Terry, Jr. and his father and mother-in-law, Jay and Lola Gentry.
SURVIVING RELATIVES: his wife, Nelle Terry; daughter Susan Ball and husband, Eddie of Ft. Towson, Okla.; four grandchildren: Megan, Misty, Shane, and Shanna of Ft. Towson, Okla.; two sisters: Doretha Puckett of Gunbarrel City, Texas and Euthema Stiff and husband, Charles of Gunbarrell City, Texas; brother-in-law Sonny Gentry and wife, Barbara of Paris, Texas; sister-in-law Rose Smith of Haynesville, La.; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and an abundance of friends.
Family received friends Friday, November 18, 2005 at the Apostolic Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church, Hugo, Okla.
