Marie Thomas

Funeral services for Marie Thomas of Grant were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2006 at Shoals Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Buchanan officiating. Interment was in Grant Cemetery.

Marie Thomas passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 in Tulsa, Okla., at the age of 79. She was born on October 15, 1926 in Hugo, Okla., to Obie Franklin and Virgie Ethel (McMillian) Davis. She married J.D. Thomas in Paris, Texas. She lived in this community all of her life. Marie was a retired Head Start teacher, having taught for 23 years. She was the Grant reporter for the Choctaw County Times; she was a member of the Shoals Baptist Church since 1950; she has been a Sunday school teacher for many years, currently teaching the Adult I class; she was the church clerk since 1950; she wrote the grant for the Grant Nutrition Center and also helped promote the center; she played an important role in the Grant Homecoming each year. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. in 1998; a brother, Ray Davis; two sisters, Ruby Davis and Mildred Davis.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Thomas of Tulsa and adopted son and daughter, Max and Quincella Adkism of Grant.

The family received friends Friday, January 27, 2006, at the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home Chapel.
