Wolf(e) marriage, cemetery request   933D

Query posted by Deadfish on April 24, 2007 for , WOLFE, TIMBERLAKE

James Edward Wolfe (b. 1877) and wife Katherine Timberlake (b 1861) were married and set up an orphanage in Vinita in about 1888. Am looking for any information on James and Katherine including marriage records or other records.

James died in Vinita, Craig County, between 1910 and 1920 according to census reports. I am also looking for any evidence of a gravestone in Craig County that may fit this description. James was known to go by Edward as well.

Thanks so much!

James Wolfe did not die in Vinita. He died in Sawtelle, CA. 1916. Wife is listed as widow in 1920 Los Angeles county, CA census. They moved to CA before 1916. All children are in CA censuses and died there.

The old orphanage was actually 5 miles west of Vinita at Gwendale.

The family is on 1920 and 1930 CA cenuses. Oldest boy is on 1910 CA census in the Navy. Small blurb on J.E.'s death in an old Vinita newspaper which is on microfilm only at the Craig county genealogy society. Someone has recently pulled vital records from the paper, but index not yet available. If you would like a copy, contact the society at ccgs484@hotmail.com

Hi,
Could you tell me who your Sarah's parents were?. I am also looking for a Chadwick connection in AL,and OK. My GGparents were John Chadwick brn abt 1820's either in GA or NC,married a Mary Hodgin/Hodgins abt 1850's in GA. Mary was still living in 1900 at age 69,and I heard that she may have died somewhere in OK. Also I do know that there was a Chadwick relative James(Jim)Chadwick who died in OK abt 1958,and had owned some property on a Rez there.I have also heard that my Chadwick line had kin who lived somewhere in north AL,and had heard the name Stevenson mentioned, but cannot remember if it was a family name or a place.
Thanks,
Shadrtach.

WEAVER VINSON, Cora Ellen - Obit   911

Obituary posted by Weather on May 29, 2007 for , WEAVER, VINSON, WINGERT, BATEMAN, PATTERSON

From the Medford (OR) Mail Tribune 05-26-2007 at http://www.mailtribune.com

On Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. a memorial service will be held for Cora Ellen Vinson at Perl Siskiyou Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Boulevard, Medford. A viewing will be held on Saturday, May 26th, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Ellen was born June 7, 1929 in Big Cabin, Okla., the first daughter, born to James R. and Goldie T. Weaver, and died on May 23, 2007 at her home in Barnett Woods Retirement Community. During the early days of the second World War, the family moved to Oregon, and Ellen has lived primarily in Oregon since that time.

On Valentine's Day, 1947, Ellen married Eldon A. Vinson, in Columbus, Kans. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a party at Barnett Woods Retirement Community on Valentine's Day, 2007.

Ellen worked at Tomlin-Webber Lumber Company, retiring as the Secretary-Treasurer of the company after 30 years of service. After retirement she and Eldon made many fun-filled trips in their motorhome, wintering in Casa Grande, Ariz. She loved their trips to the casinos enroute to their winter home, and those of us who loved her can still hear her infectious laugh each time she cried "JACKPOT!"

Surviving are her husband, Eldon A. Vinson of Medford; a son, Shannon Eldon Vinson of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two grandsons, Sean E. Vinson of Eagle Point and Jonathan P. Vinson of Los Angeles, Calif.; sisters, Marge Wingert and Anne W. Bateman of Medford, Millie Patterson of Redding, Calif.; and one brother, Gary Weaver of Medford. Her parents and two brothers, Leonard and Clarence, preceded her in death. In addition, she is survived by three great-grandchildren, Eric, Raymond and Cherre-Ellen Vinson of Eagle Point, Ore.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made in her name to the Rogue Valley Dialysis Patient Trust Fund, 2868 Creekside Circle, Medford, OR 97504.

Re: Info African American families   919

Query posted by Baiano, Steve on June 12, 2007

Hello from Steve Spencer,

I just came back from spending the weekend in Old Vinita. There is not much left, the old hotel is falling down. My grand parents and great grandparents, were Freedmen. I have the enrollment card and interviews for my great grand fathers Joe Davis and Ben Beck. I went to the three cemetaries, two Freedmen and the main Vinita cemetary. I found no relative in the Freedmen cemetaries, but did find my great great grandmother Bettie Beck's tombstone in the main cemetary

Take Care

WHAT OTHER SURNAMES WERE YOU LOOKING FOR. 2 of our members did Ketchum Cemetery a number of years ago. About 10 freedman cemeteries were moved in there in 1939.
They also published 6 FREEDMEN CEMETERIES (2 in Craig, 2 Rogers and 2 Nowata counties 2 years ago. Maybe some of your people are there.
