Township 9N Range 13E, and the portion of Twp 8N Rng 13E north of the South Canadian River
were originally part of Hughes county, but were annexed by McIntosh county on Aug. 27, 1914.
The western half of Township 12N Range 14E became a part of Okmulgee County in 1919
T12N indicates Township 12 North, T11N indicates Township 11 North etc.
R13E indicates Range 13 East, R14E indicates Range 14 East etc.Each square described by the intersection of a Township and Range is 6 miles
wide and 6 miles long containing 36 square miles each of which is called a section.

The sections are numbered as indicated
on the left.Using this scheme it is possible to determine
that Sec. 9 T12N R17E would be an area just
north of Checotah, or that part of Eufaula
would be in Sec. 35 T10N R16E.
