FREDA FERN BRANDON
Freda Fern Brandon passed from this life on June 5, 2001 in
Antlers,
Oklahoma at the age of 76 years. She was born on June 28, 1924 in
Oran,
Texas to the late Fred and Bess (Woods) Erwin.
Freda was a very loving and devoted housewife, mother, and
grandmother. She
had a special love for her grandkids and without exception, put
the care of
her family above her own wants or desires. She has resided in this
area
since May 26, 1955 after relocating from Butterfield, Texas. She
was a
longtime member of the First Christian Church in Antlers. Freda
attended
school at Cisco Jr. College and the Texas State College for Women.
While
attending Cisco Jr. College, Freda was voted as the most beautiful
woman on
campus. She has served as an ESA member, the Hospital Ladies
Auxiliary and
as a city librarian. Freda had many hobbies such as painting,
cooking,
quilting, gardening, and she was addicted to crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her husband: John W. Brandon of the home; a
son: John
Brandon and his wife Vicky of Antlers, Okla.; a daughter: Melody
Brandon of
Alexandria, Virginia; a sister: Bonnie Bess Erwin-Hill of Austin,
Texas;
four grandchildren: Vanessa Brandon, Brooke Brandon, Jordan
Brandon, and
Jacob Brandon; three nephews: Phillip Craig Surles, Loyd Erwin
Surles and
Mark Hill; a niece: Cynthia Hill and an entire host of close
family and
friends.
Freda was preceded in death by her parents: Fred and Bess Erwin;
and a
sister: Helen Virginia Surles.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 8, 2001 at Mills-Coffey
Funeral Home
Chapel in Antlers, Oklahoma with Mr. D. Brent Franks officiating.
Serving as casket bearers: Mike Baggett, Benny Wallace, Mark Tims,
Billy
Winters, Martin Taylor, and Herbert Taylor.
Honorary casket bearers were: Robert Jeffers, Bill Perrin, Ed
Wallace,
Lowell Burgess, Jr., Steve Kirk, and Ed Allen.
Final resting place was at the Antlers City Cemetery under the
direction of
Mills-Coffey Funeral Home of Antlers, Oklahoma.
