WALTER NOBLE "JOE"
FRANKS
Walter Noble "Joe" Franks was born on December 22, 1903 in
Antlers, Oklahoma
Indian Territory and passed away on August 23, 2001 in Antlers,
Oklahoma at
the age of 97 years.
"Joe" was retired from the State Highway Department, a
farmer/stockman, hard
working and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was
member of
the Antlers Church of Christ. "Joe" married Alta M. Johnson on
October 30,
1924 in Hugo, Oklahoma and moved to the Antlers area in 1932 where
they have
lived since. They have been together for over 76 years. Joe's
favorite
pastime was gardening. He spent countless hours working in his
gardens that
gave him so much pleasure and of which he was so proud.
He is survived by his wife: Alta Madilene Franks of the home;
sons: Harold
Franks and wife Wilma of Antlers, Oklahoma; Jack Franks and wife
Bobbie of
Antlers, Oklahoma; W. N. Franks and wife Virginia of Finley,
Oklahoma and
Jimmy Franks and wife Bernice of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma;
daughters: Fern
Smith and husband Tommy of Antlers, Oklahoma; Freda Wood of
Sherman, Texas;
sister: Ethel Loy of Antlers, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren; 26 great
grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Elijah and Nora Franks;
brother:
Tollie Franks; sisters: Annabelle Griggs, Mertice Sherrer, and
Lillian
Jordan and 4 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 27, 2001 at 10:00 a.m.
at the
Church of Christ with D. Brent Franks officiating.
Serving as pallbearers were: Brent Franks, Joe Franks, Craig
Franks, Jon
Wood, Lynn Smith, Ray Smith, Jerry Franks, and Guy Franks.
Honorary pallbearers included: Matt Brick, David Van Curen,
Kenneth
Harbison, Darin Harbison, Phillip Franks, Tommy Jay Rosenthal,
Nicky
Rosenthal, Joshua Franks, Jason Franks, Curtis Armstrong, Timmy
Franks and
Justin Franks.
Burial was held at Oddfellows 100F Cemetery under the direction of
Mills-Coffey Funeral Home of Antlers, Oklahoma.
